Reggie Jackson's Next Contract

Post#1 » by theokie » Thu Nov 28, 2013 7:06 pm

This upcoming summer is his James Harden summer. Fortunately, I think its clear that he's not a max player. However, I could see him wanting close to 10 million per, and if thats the case, do they Thunder pay him or trade him? Keep in mind that his extension won't kick in until after Perkins contract expires, so that will help. Regardless, I think what he would want could put OKC in into the tax.

I'm thinking a four year deal at 7-8 million per year seems reasonable.

Whats on the books for 2015/2016 (also Durants contract year, so were going to want to have a lot of talent around him)

Westbrook - 17 million
Lamb - 3 million
Durant - 21 million
Ibaka - 12 million
Adams - 2 million

Perry Jones - 2 million
Andre Roberson - 1 million

Roughly 58 million for 7 players, Jackson could bump that number close to 65-70 million for 8 players, meaning OKC would go into the tax to round out the roster.

I wouldn't pay more than 5-6 million per year. Anything over 7.5 is a MAJOR overpay.

A 5 year 35 mill contract would be reasonable IMHO. A lot can change until that time though. If he has another gear in him, it will truly be a James Harden summer. Hard to root for the guy, just because of that.

Ah, CBA. How it crushes my soul.

I think the max extension is 4 years.

^^^ Right. The max extension we can offer Reggie is a 4 year deal, because we already used our 5 year extension on Westbrook.

You can pretty much add 2-3 more late first coming in by the summer his extension will come up.(3rd being Dallas pick or the Euro from this past draft). So about 4 million more for all 3.

So that'd be around 62 million for 10 players. Luxury line around 74. 12 million for Jackson and 1/2 more players. I think either Collison or Perkins sign as for vet min. So that first year shouldn't be a problem, the next year when Lamb needs an extension is when things can get tricky.

They might have to choose between Lamb or Jackson, not sure they can keep both.

I'd do 4 years, 30 million.

A little over 7 mil.

I think the most Jackson will get from the Thunder will be $5 mill a year. With the draft being stacked this year I would not be surprised if he is moved for a lottery pick.

Marcus Smart please!

This is extremely unlikely however. I don't know who would take a guy who's about to get paid over a younger prospect for much cheaper. Especially for a rebuilding team.

Jackson was held in check last night. He certainly isnt shy about his offense right now. However, I feel like he's a big redundancy when Westbrook is on the floor with him. Neither are great outside shooters and both need the ball in their hands to be effective. Its not like Reggie is a lockdown defender either, especially when he's forced to go up against bigger wing players.

I'm starting to think he'll be moved as well, though not for a lotto pick. Not sure what at this point, but just a feeling OKC won't be able to afford him and a move could provide depth/financial relief.

I don't think any team will give up a lottery pick for him. If OKC can get one for him that's a no brainer.

Otherwise I think they keep him. Next year only guards on the books are Westbrook, Jackson, Lamb, and Roberson possibly if they seem as a d and 3 guy like we saw earlier this season. Westbrook/Jackson/Lamb can play 85+ minutes a night while OKC develops a rookie at pg/Roberson with the other 11 minutes.

I'm not convinced Jackson is a starter level player as deep as point guard is in the league for most teams. So comparing him to other good 6th player types, 5-6 million is about what he should get.

With the tax surely going up to around 75+ next year or so I could see Presti throwing out a generous 7-8 for 4 offer. I think a lot still depends on this coming year, obviously, not only in Jackson's play but in the general makeup of the team.

How are the current assets used?

Perk amnesty
Martin TPE
Pleiss
Abrines
Expiring Thabo
Dallas first if they sneak in the top 10
Thunder's first

Let me clarify this before my next statement....Reggie is NOT Harden. If Reggie does a lot of what we got with Harden so if we can get that at a fraction of the cost, it leaves room for others salary.

Reggie can't shoot the three ball or get to the line like Harden, thats the primary difference right now. Jackson for his position is a better defender.

Hopefully Reggie can turn into an average 3 point shooter, AFTER, we extend him. The free throws I'm not to worried about, because he finishes at the rim with amazing efficiency, as opposed to flopping and trying to draw contact.

Absolutely right on, with the Harden Reggie differences. I would say Reggie is better at mid range as well, but falls into taking shots outside of his 'sweet' spots.

Reggie does some silly behind the back/between the legs dribbles sometimes in traffic (usually 2 times a game) that he needs to fix, and the 3 pt shot but like you said, that's only gonna up his price.
