No by having the protections Dallas cant trade future picks .. I would be fine with paying $3 Million and a 2nd rd pick just to unprotect the pick this year so Dallas could then trade their 2016 and 2018 Picks

by unprotecting you mean giving up the pick assuming it's 16-20 this year or giving up a completely unprotected 2015 pick? I don't think Dallas would do that, Considering cash is a max of 3m a season. probably give up 2 2nd instead.

I mean unprotect it so If Dallas stays where they are at OKC gets the 21st Pick . If Dallas slips to the Lottery then OKC gets a Lottery Pick

I guess OKC would be fine with that even if we are giving up something additional in terms of pick or cash if the pick end up being higher than 20. Not too sure if Dallas would do it though.

How about Vince Carter + $3 Million cash + Dallas 2nd rd pick ?

Vince is expiring and fits into the Martin TPE . OKC also has a open roster spot so Vince could help in the playoffs atleast as a scorer off the bench

Nope, I'd love VC, but puts OKC in the tax.

I'd trade back for Dallas in the draft day to take the protection.

With about 2/3 of the season done, Dal is 32-22 with 28 games left.

It will be reallllly close.

8th best record in the league.

Given how deep this class is and 2-4 spots open, could use 2 1st round picks on the roster.

It's just preference but with Lamb, Andre, Perry, Adams I don't want to add two more young-uns specifically end of the 1 round young-uns. I could see Presti trying to move up with one pick and Reggie (assuming Reggie has $$ in his eyes).

I figure we need a PG and a PF in the next draft? (assuming sef and perk are retained or replaced with vets.) I think two late firsts would be great, Would it still cost alot to buy a first this year?

With the rumor of OKC wanting a 2way player that is a shooter .

Ellington + Dallas 2nd rd Pick + Memphis 2016 Unprotected 2nd rd Pick + $3 Million cash for Thabeet and Dallas Top 20 protected pick .

Dallas currently 6th in the West just 4.5 Games out of 5th . And the pick is currently 23rd .

Ellington since January 1st shooting .471 FG% .533 3P%

This move also keeps OKC under the Luxury tax by $784,000 so OKC could sign a couple of Dleague players and still stay under the tax

OKC would have 2 open roster spots and with just 27 games to go I would think they could sign 2 players for the rest of the year each making less than $392,000

Should clarify the rumor. OKC would like to add a good shooter. Ellington's percentages are up b/c his attempts are crazy low. I'd think even for a minimum player, they'd want someone averaging more than 11 mpg. And the 3 point percentage is w/ him shooting under 2 3s per game. Easy no, not gettin the pick back. OKC could use it either in a better trade or to get a solid rookie.

Ellington career 18.5 MPG .382 3P% 2.3 3PA

I respect that you do not want Ellington but realistically what 11 PPG player that shoots better than .380 3P% and getting paid less than $3 million so you can remain under the luxury tax that is available for the 23rd Pick ?

Dunleavy, CJ Miles, Tolliver, maybe Korver
Edit: These are paid more, but a small outgoing salary can fix it.

Tolliver and Korver ?

Both on Eastern Playoff teams and both very much a part of their rotation . I don't see either team just giving them away just for the 23rd Pick .

Dunleavey and Miles I could see . But also when Ellington got playing time last year with Cleveland he put up stats the same as Dunleavey and Miles . The problem this year is Ellington was signed before Dallas new they were getting Ellis . And with Ellis / Carter / Harris taking all the SG minutes Ellington wont get any playing time.

Ellington last year with Cleveland 38 Gms 17 Starts 25.9 MPG 10.4 PPG .439 FG.371 3P% 3.8 3PA

Still not worth a first round pick.
