Never thought I'd say this but I can't help but love the way Derek fisher has been playing over the last 20 games or so. He's not making his stupid drives to the basket that never workout, is playing within his limits, and has been money from 3. Scary to think he's back to third string once Westbrook comes back, the second unit has so many options and looks if he can keep this up and pj 3 continues to do what he does.

I was thinking about posting this same thread right now... He has been very solid. He had made a comment in an interview about a month ago that he feels like he can play differently with this being his last season and not having to save for anything.

As far as when Russ comes back, I'm expecting to Fisher to be moved to the back up SG, Lamb to the 3 and Perry out of the rotation (similar to beginning of the season).

You are probably right, but I'm hoping brooks will either play the Jackson-Fisher-Lamb lineup or Jackson-Lamb-PJ based on matchups. Or they could just play Jackson-Lamb with Durant on the second unit since he could sit in the first when westbrook is playing. They have tons of options can even use PJ over Adams at times against small lineups with Collison at center. Jones has been too good to get no burn

Yeah props to DFish. Has been a very pleasant surprise and I feel like he knew he had to step up when Russ went down and he has done just that. I can already see him hitting a couple huge 3's for us in the playoffs when we need a spark.

With that being said, like a couple of you said, this is Fish last season so we need to balance his playing time and continue to develop Perry as well. I love PJ III work ethic and his steps forward he has taken forward the last few weeks.. Loved what I saw in the Miami game against Lebron. I want him groomed so that when playoffs come, we have another long athletic freak defender we can pull off the bench to help us out.

He has gone back to doing what he made a career of, bringing the ball up court, passing to a better offensive player and then spotting up.

I have a bit of concern over what happens when he leaves. You cant lose a guy like Fisher and it not affect your team. Even if he is averaging 3 points, his knowledge and IQ on the side line is worth five times his pay, especially when you have a bunch of young players.
So is there anyone we can get to replace that? It seems to me like billups would be the only other option but i think hes retiring after this season too. J. Jack is an option but he is signed for like 6 mill a year for 3 years and would require a decent trade to get him, which im not sure if im willing to be okay with.
Better yet, maybe the Thunder simply offer him an assistant coaching position.

Derek Fisher leads the team in net differential per 100 possessions. The team is greater than +20 points per 100 possessions when the trio of Durant-Collison-Fisher is on the court.

However, Fisher has not been able to save lineups that do not include Durant in them. The lineup of Fisher-Lamb-Jones-Collison-Adams is -12 points per 100 possessions this season. This has been the primary backup unit since Westbrook's surgery.

With his shooting rounding into form, Fisher's been a very obvious stabilizing force for the team in Westbrook's absence. At least offensively. I expect he'll have less value when Westbrook returns and he spends a greater percentage of his minutes in lineups that do not include Durant.
