KD's MVP speech and thanks

Post#1 » by spearsy23 » Thu May 8, 2014 5:38 am

I think watching his speech really put things in some perspective for me. Too often I, and all of us, are extremely critical of our team, but I think it's really important for us to realize how lucky we are. Every guy we've ever brought in has been a remarkable person and we have the privilege of watching one of the best teams in the NBA on top of that. All of our guys give back to a community that's a lot tighter than an area like NY or LA, they've become a fixture and embraced the city every bit as much as the fans have embraced them.

This next couple years may yield a lot of player turnover, but whatever the outcome of this season, we should all be thankful that we've had these guys for the last few years. A championship would be amazing, but this team and this franchise will always be my favorite for everything they've already given us.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Agree man, there's a bunch of really good guys on this team. This is the only speech I can remember where the winner/speaker genuinely called out pretty much everyone on the team for individual thanks, which makes me feel like they want to be together more too. Either way, it has been and for at least a few more years will be a great run, and from what I see they all do a ton in the community as well. I really want to get to see them live at a game sometime.

Figured I would put this here, Collison wrote an SI article on KD:

Thirty years from now, what I'll remember most about Kevin is how he treated people. Because his world is really crazy. He can't go anywhere without people coming up to him. Everybody wants something. It would almost be understandable for him to not have a good feel for how to deal with people. But he's managed to stay true to who he was on that first day I met him seven years ago. He's still respectful. What you see is who he is. Everybody who works for the Thunder, he works with them, they don't work for him. We're all peers.
