Someone should offer Iggy the max

Post#1 » by Old Man Game » Sat Jun 17, 2017 12:09 pm

According to Tim Kawakami the Warriors hope to re-sign Iggy for 8-12 million and they consider him a foundational piece (part of their "Big 5"). He's 32 but some team that doesn't figure to contend for a few years anyway and has cap space should offer Iggy a 4 year max just to screw with them. Sort of like Portland did to us with Kanter. Bonus, Iggy would actually be a nice piece on most any team and his veteran locker room presence and championship pedigree would be a great example around young guys.

Handholding would be more than enough to make up for the difference.

The market value of hand holding can't overstated. Unless you're anyone who isn't an immature, emotionally stunted, Mama's boy in which case it's **** useless.

Nate Jones said he knew one team offered 18 per, but what's out there right now is that he's signing back with GSW for 12 per.

FFS. That must be some good weed in the San Francisco area or something. Most guys wouldn't leave 6 million on the table when they're on the last decent contract of their career.

He wants more rings. He has also made over $100M for his career. Assuming he took care of his money I'd fully expect him to take less to stay on a championship team like a lot of role players have been doing the last decade. He's not going as extreme as David West or Zaza in terms of giving up money. Since Iggy has been making $12M/yr he might consider it fair to maintain his prime salary as he declines.

Livingston has only made $30M in his career. GS is likely maxed out at offering him the MLE. So if someone offers Livginston $12-15M/yr I'd expect him to leave for the money.

I expect OKC to be a active suitor to Iguodala, though. I expect GSW not matching his offer. They'll just sign VC to min. They won't keep both Livingston and Iguodala after all. They've to save the cap for future offseason for Draymond Green and Klay Thompson. They may only look for veteran minimum option. They may offer BAE to McGee, though. I don't think we've to offer max to lure him away from Golden States. They're only offering 12M per. That's far from reasonable for a guy in AI2's caliber. 15-16M per should be enough. Given his age, he's just the right buddy next to Westbrook. And OKC doesn't need to match Roberson's contract. AI2 is generally more 2-wayed and versatile player than Roberson.

How is OKC going to get $16M under the cap to make that offer? Which two of Adams, Kanter and Dipo are they trading for minimal returning salary? OKC, as of right now, can only offer the vet minimum without going into the tax and they can only offer the MLE, $8M, even if they are willing to go into the tax. They can't afford to bring back Roberson, assuming they are going to avoid the tax, without clearing salary and he should be a $10-12M/yr guy not a $16-18M/yr guy like Iguodala would be on the open market.
