And yeah it's a little different than calling a rival player a nickname. You generally don't make derogatory nicknames for players you area fan of.
i don't recall any having anyone problem with me calling caron butler 'pet rock'. or serge ibaka 'serge bargnani'. except royce young.bondom34 wrote:I know you're not a fan of him though, but the point stands.
i'm definitely not a fan of his behavior on the court lately, and i am not a fan of his leadership style. but he's on the team i like so i hope he can change those things for the better and improve the thunder's chances of winning games. does being a fan of the thunder obligate me to withhold criticism of baron?bondom34 wrote:The general point is (and not just you) but a lot of people seem to have turned a bit on Russ after 10 bad games.
fans of okc should be disappointed with his play, and in my opinion should be aware that his style of leadership in moments of adversity this season may not be optimal.
i really don't see the issue here. if he plays better and gets his head on straight he'll be beloved once more.

Yes.
But:

When you refer to Russell by that name it makes everything you say afterward seem just a little insincere and not particularly objective.
This. If you called him "jackass' every post I'd feel the same. If you called him Russ and just said, hey Russ has sucked and done some dumb crap, it feels entirely different to most people.
One way of doing it is using critique, the other is coming across as condescending to a player who frankly is the best player on the team when he's playing close to his best.
