What’s up with Steven Adams RPM scores?

Post#1 » by bbms » Fri Dec 29, 2017 4:09 pm

He’s playing an extremely efficient scoring game, he generates offense on his own with his elite offensive rebounding and his pick and roll with Westbrook seems to be the most reliable play for this team, yet he’s struggling to make his performance noticed on adjusted +/- data. His BPM is decent, but I would expect a bigger impact, specially given his talent edge over his replacements at the C position.

Can someone cast a light on this for me?

he's just outside the top 10 among starting C. rpm seems to be more position dependent every year. his -0.79 orpm seems bad until you consider that's right there with someone like valanciunas, and slightly behind enes kanter.

he'll finish in the top 10 among starting C i would bet. maybe higher.

Yep.

And lineups this year seem more heavily dependent on Dre defensively whenever I've looked through them it seems.

Isn’t it counterintuitive to minimize RPM and BPM to analyse the C position?

Seems like win shares are a more accurate representation of Adams impact. He ranks 14th overall, ahead of George at 24.

win shares is just bbr individual ortg and drtg. ortg isn't that bad but drtg is doo-doo since it's limited by boxscore statistics like steals and blocks. no lineup data component.

So basically since drtg measures stats it’s bogus. Hence the reason Westbrook, who gets lots of steals, is our highest ranked defensive player. Am I understanding correctly?

he gets a lot of steals and defensive rebounds, yes.

the issue with bbr's individual drtg imo is that by limitation it gives credit to all players (whether they are in the game or not) for non-steal turnovers and non-block misses- adjusted for court time.
