You know, if we can’t get a vet PF, I’d prefer to keep Saric (at an under 8 mil contract for maybe 2 years) and Sarr. Run it back with Chet, and wait for the deadline to see what Dort/Mann/JRE and picks could garner. OKC has already proven they can play small. I don’t mind another season scrounging being a little undersized.
I would agree 100% if I wasn't worried about Chet's health..if we run it back and Chet gets injured, it will be a wasted season. We can still wait what will happen during the season obviously but it feels like a good timing to add a PF with a lot of good players likely available (oG/Collins/Grant/PJ washington).
I still think there's a world where Harden goes back to Houston and we can get Jabari for a decent price
If Chet has major injury next year, I’m probably writing him off as a bust. Could be wrong but he needs to be healthy next year.
really depends what kind of injury. If same foot, it's over for sure.

Watching giddey with saric makes you wonder what it would look like having two decent bigs who can finish and are lob threats. Josh has gotten Dario some real easy buckets.

I still think he has a very limited ceiling but I was wrong about Jaylin...his BBIQ is helping us a lot.
Great team performance. Don't expect us to shoot like this on nightly basis obviously but we play smart basketball.
Zone defense gonna be a thing against us until we get more outside shooters.
Dieng is improving, hope he can get more minutes.

Re: OKC Thunder 2022-23 Regular Season Discussion
Dario starting to look like a legit fit as a backup C. No, he isnt a great defender but he is decently bulky and can hold his position in the post. His offensive game is a ideal fit for how the Thunder play.
If you can get him back 3/12M, do you take it? I dont think he will cost much more than that.
A quiet offseason of just paying Dario the above and taking a EC shooter like McDermott into cap space while waiting in the wigs for a star to get disgruntled / the 2024 offseason to use the cap space would be prudent IMO. The class this year is pretty poor unless your overpaying PJ or Grant (Cam is 100% getting matched in BRK IMO, thought there was a chance you could snag him from PHX but not now IMO).
Cam clearly would be the best fit if your backing the truck up for a FA.

I’d be ok with saric at 2/16, I think. If you can get him for less, great. Keep some flexibility under the cap with a movable asset and wait for an above average PF. Wouldn’t really want to overpay for PJ. Would gladly swap Collins for Dort. Would be interested in checking the temperature on Siakam this summer.

I dont think Dario commands even 8M. Maybe 6M. 2/12M or 3/18M w/ TO.
Pascal would be the top guy to watch for me as well. Think an overpay for OG may be smart, but also dont think OKC can give him his apparent want of higher usage.
Collins worries me. OKC has built a really good culture and he seems a bit aloof. Albeit playing w/ Trae would be frustrating at times. Much more tunnell vision and ball pounding than Josh and SGA IMO.

I told you already several times that GIDDEY was a steal in the 2021 draft.
Keep D.Saric for 2/10 or 2/12 would be great. He can take the Mike Muscala role as veteran.

I've liked what I've seen from Saric so far. I'd also kick the tires on Poeltl. I like him a lot, but I suspect he is going to command a lot of money.

I don't mind making the play in in a vacuum but 30% less chances of a top 4 pick because of 3-4 extra wins would be painful.

I wish Ingram was playing but this is way too easy for Shai...killing it on both ends of the floor.

The first half was great. The second half was choppy.
I've abandoned the idea that we might tank for draft position at this point. Hopefully we can take care of business against SA and things will get very interesting over the next couple weeks.

If nothing else happens other than Chet being what we hope he is, we're going to be a lot of fun next year with natural development of the team.

JDub is the clear #1 option when SGA isn’t playing. Crazy how much of a leap he has already taken since the start of the season.

Re: OKC Thunder 2022-23 Regular Season Discussion
some random observations:
bpm has josh giddey pretty close to +1.0 and jalen williams pretty close to neutral. rare for 20 year old and rookie, respectively. most of the players who achieved these are players you would be happy with giddey and williams becoming. giddey may be aided on bpm due to assist + rebound interaction terms- this metric likes players who accumulate both.
lu dort is shooting 42.3% on layups this year. that ranks 1550th of 1563 seasons with 200+ layup attempts since 2002-03. it's difficult to put into word just how bad he has been at finishing. thunder offense would improve by more than one point per 100 possessions if you just replaced lu dort's layup attempts with the cumulative average layup attempt from all his teammates. he's plateaued on his jump shooting, also. very disappointing season from him. i think he might be on the bench next season.

I hope Dort is on the bench next year but don't hold your breath. I would rather He shot a three instead of a layup.

I would think long and hard about reaching out to ATL about a Dort for Collins swap. Maybe add in Mann to offload his deal (Really dont see him as a fit). Thats about 18.4M outgoing and 25M incoming - so overall reduces cap space by a bit under 7M. Might even get a future pick to take on that deal.
Then I would think about targeting Reaves in FA. Seems like such a fit w/ what Presti has been doing. Low usage, elite efficiency, try hard, nice passer, effort defender, team guy, great character. I would offer him 15M and not look back.
G - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (36) / Isaiah Joe (12)
G - Jalen Williams (10) / Austin Reaves (28)/ Isaiah Joe (10) / Aaron Wiggins
F - Josh Giddey (30) / Jalen Williams (18) / Osumane Dieng
F - John Collins (30) / Kenrich Williams (18) / Aleksej Pokusevski
C - Chet Holmgren (28) / Jaylin Williams (20) / Jeremiah Robinson-Earl
I heart that roster.
Return to Oklahoma City Thunder
