Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
Just speculating but my guess is that they either didn’t want take on 3 first round picks, there are a few guys they really like that they feel are going to fall to 18, and they also feel good about what is going to be available in the second round.

Don’t know anything about the wizards pick, but I’m pretty sure the Detroit pick is top 15 protected for like 4 years or something like that. Don’t know if it goes unprotected or conveys as a second or whatever.

Don't care about Sengun, hope we can still get Keon Johnson at 18. Presti better have a plan for all these picks man. It's starting to get annoying. There are only 15 roster spots.

“The Wizards sent John Wall and a protected 2023 first-round pick to the Rockets in exchange for Russell Westbrook in early December. The pick is top-14 protected in 2023, top-12 protected in 2024, top-10 protected in 2025 and top-eight protected in 2026.”

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
2022 first round draft pick from Detroit
Detroit's 1st round pick to Houston protected for selections 1-16 in 2022, 1-18 in 2023, 1-18 in 2024, 1-13 in 2025, 1-11 in 2026 and 1-9 in 2027; if Detroit has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Detroit by 2027, then Detroit will instead convey its 2027 2nd round pick to Houston [Detroit-Houston, 11/24/2020]
2023 first round draft pick from Washington
Washington's 1st round pick to Houston protected for selections 1-14 in 2023, 1-12 in 2024, 1-10 in 2025 and 1-8 in 2026; if Washington has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Houston by 2026, then Washington will instead convey its 2026 2nd round pick and 2027 2nd round pick to Houston [Houston-Washington, 12/2/2020]
Going to be waiting a while on those picks.. Pretty underwhelming draft so far, but in Presti we trust I guess. Why do I have a feeling we'll be getting seconds from the Wizards

Maybe trade 18 and not 16? Just a thought.

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
I like trading the pick, as 3 new rookie contracts in 1 draft is a lot, but I wish the trade was for immediate gain.

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
I think the strategy here is punt for more picks down the road to eventually have the capital to make a move for a star. Your not drafting a big-3. Its super rare. Get 2 of 3 via the draft and use the capital down the road for a big trade. I think this is a long term play for Presti. Not going to question it honestly.

Sengun is going to be the best player in the draft.

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
Maybe we'll hear that the Rockets dropped some protections on the picks/swaps we're owed already. That'd make me feel a bit better.
