this isn't close tbh

If we want to move up to 4 without giving up SGA, I'm pretty sure we can overpay offering a lot of picks. Better keep SGA.

As long as Sam feels good about Shai wanting to be here, I wouldn't trade him for number one.

Anyone want to give us their hypothetical offseason and why in some posts?

I don’t think we trade up from six but expect 16 & 18 to be packaged together. Probably end up with

Barnes/Kuminga or maybe Bouknight at six.

I’m hoping we can snag moody around 10-12.

My guess is Jerome comes back, Svi doesn’t.

Kemba is more likely to play the entire season here than none of it.

If Bazley doesn’t improve by mid season, he’ll start being phased out, especially if other young guys show flashes.

Vit Krejci will get people excited.

I think it's gonna be a boring offseason because we don't have many players/salaries to flip (this could change very quickly if we find a package for Kemba but it's unlikely).

Think we end up with 6. I wanted Kuminga a few months ago but somehow now I'm scared he can be a huge bust so I'm fine with Barnes.

Presti won't overpay to move up from 6 so he will pay whoever acce
Then we probably pick another guy in the 2nd round and end up withpt 16/18 + another small asset to get another good prospect he likes in the 9-12 range. Probably gonna end up trading Kenrich in the mix. Would bet on Sengun, Wagner or Giddey. 3 rookies (maybe 4)

We need to draft a big and also need sign another one in free agency. Small chance Bradley stays but I wouldn't bet on it. Think Svi is gone too. Jerome is a keeper because he can shoot.

I don't expect us to go after any RFA. Maybe Markkanen if no other team is offering him a good contract.

If we draft Barnes, I would trade Roby but he probably stays a little bit in OKC and gets traded at the deadline.

Well we made so many trades last offseason and last trade deadline that this offseason won't be as fun but that's pretty normal...just sucks that we got unlucky in the lottery.

OKC has some massive trade exceptions in play that can be used along with their cap space to take advantage of teams looking for cap relief. They could use it to get more picks for the future or to move up. A few teams come in mind:

1) Boston. I'm sure they're looking to move Thompson after the draft. If OKC can get 3 2nds the way Philly paid 3 2nds to ultimately acquire Hill(2 to OKC, 1 to NY), I'm sure Stevens will pay the price. This would allow them to get a $9.7M TPE to fill out the roster as they see fit and I'm sure they'll cut Jabari Parker to make space to resign Fournier and stay under the tax.

2) Indiana. They have the 13th pick, but could be willing to move down in the draft provided someone is willing to eat Lamb's deal. He's been injury prone and just hasn't been able to stay healthy(missed 73 games over 2 years). Getting cap relief would be a priority for them.

3) New Orleans. I'm sure Griffin is having buyer's remorse over the botched Jrue Holiday deal as he could've used him to be moved for a better fitting package such as trading for Myles Turner prior to last year. He's probably trying to move Bledsoe's deal and perhaps even Adams and Iwundu's deals in order to get more cap space and leverage to work with when it comes to deciding whether or not to resign Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart's deals. If OKC can get #10 while eating Adams+Bled and Iwundu's deals while only sending out a few non-guaranteed deals and some 2nds, it's worth looking into.

4) Cleveland. They have the #3 pick, but the Kevin Love situation has been a problem for them and I'm sure if they could get cap relief for his deal along with Osman's it's worth looking into.

With that said here's what I'd try to do:

1) Make the deals for #1-#3 in the following package:

Boston: 1M cash from OKC, 9.7M trade exception
Indiana: #18, a 2nd in this year's draft from OKC, 10.5M trade exception
New Orleans: some non-guaranteed deals/low level prospects, 2nds from OKC
OKC: Steven Adams, Eric Bledsoe(via Steven Adams TPE), Wesley Iwundu+Jeremy Lamb(Trevor Ariza TPE), Tristan Thompson(Gallo TPE), #10, #13, future 2nds from Boston(2-3)

I tried this deal and sent out someone like Isaiah Roby. You could send out Charlie Brown Jr. instead, but due to him being recently signed, he can't be moved until August 13. In this deal you get the following accomplished:

-Boston clears the logjam in the front court and they get more cap space to work with to potentially resign Fournier. They also get a 9.7M trade exception to fill out the roster as they see fit and if they manage to resign Fournier to a short term deal while bringing over Yam Madar from Israel to be their backup point guard if it works out.
-Indiana slides down in the draft, but get an extra 2nd in this year's draft to fill out the roster and get out of Lamb's deal
-New Orleans saves over $37M in salary alone and they'll save an additional $22M in future salary owed to Bledsoe and Adams. The Pelicans will get some 2nds to fill out their roster with the 2nds they already have. This also allows them the opportunity to open up playing time for Lewis Jr. and Hayes not to mention it gives them leverage in any S&T for Lonzo Ball if they choose not to keep him plus Josh Hart.
-OKC uses up the majority of Gallo and Ariza's TPE, but they still have Adams's TPE in play with 9.4M after absorbing Bled's deal. Other than Adams, everybody is expiring and Adams is a good vet presence who can mentor the young guys plus they move up in the draft and consolidate some of their 2nds plus cap space to get an additional 1st.

2). Usually you have to wait 30 days before making another trade. If possible, consider consolidating the pieces in scenario 1 to try and move up in the draft with Cleveland with the following trade after the draft is done if possible:

Cleveland: Eric Bledsoe, Jeremy Lamb, Tristan Thompson, Wesley Iwundu, #6, maybe #16 or couple future 2nds.
Oklahoma City: Kevin Love, Cedi Osman(acquired via $9.4M Adams TPE), #3

-Cleveland gets out of Love and Osman's deals. Osman's 23-24 salary is not guaranteed so his deal would expire at the same time as Adams, Love, and Walker's deals. They will save about $32.5M in salary including Bled's final year which is partially guaranteed for $3.9M. Yes they take a bit of downer by moving down in the draft, but they may be willing to do so in order to get out of Love's deal and to open up cap space to pay Allen.
-OKC takes some short term pain with these deals but get to move up to #3 if Cleveland is that desperate to move on from him. Osman had a really brutal season last year, but I think he can bounce back and OKC could eventually flip him to a contender as his deal and contract is desirable for a contender looking for a team friendly deal. Love may show some motivation to try and get going, but in the event it doesn't work out and nobody wants him they could buy him out. The other positive is the team will be under the luxury tax when adding up all these deals for 21-22 and all these deals expire when the 1st year of SGA's extension kicks in.

It's a lot of wishful thinking, but if they can't get the Cleveland scenario to happen, I'd consider simply doing the 1st scenario with Boston, Indiana and New Orleans just to capitalize while you can.

These are all great ideas, but I’m guessing it costs more to get Cavs to budge and move the 3rd pick.

I think you’d have to be willing to go 6, 16, and Suns 2022 1st or Denver 2023 1st for Love and 3 just to get the conversation started. And then the Cavs probably want more. Unless you get a desperate front office and can fleece them like the Thunder did the Magic in the Ibaka deal

I like the Pelicans idea even if it means Bledsoe has to actually put on a Thunder uniform, but I think Pelicans should be looking to use Adams and Bledsoe salary to match salary in a bigger win now move with all their assets.

Indy sounds nice, and I think obtainable, but at some point they will need to have the discussion about a reset, so keeping Lamb and letting McBuckets and McConnell walk could be the play to keep pick 13.

That is a good point regarding NO as they completely botched their HC hiring by giving the job to Stan Van Gundy and it was just a waste of time. Zion definitely isn't too happy about that. The crazy part was that Griffin was willing to part with Lonzo for the price of Eric Bledsoe and sure he's gonna get a big deal, but he's really improved his FT shot(76%) and has become consistent with that 3pt shot in NO at 38%. I think they'd be making a huge mistake letting him go before seeing his talent fully develop where he could either be a cornerstone next to BI+Zion or be moved later on if the situation calls for it.

For OKC, I think to get them to budge, eating Osman's deal(decreasing cap hit every year) will be an interesting proposal to them as he's a perfect buy low candidate coming off a rough year and if the Pacers choose to stand pat which I think they will, they could do the following:

1) Eat Thompson's salary as mentioned.
2) New Orleans will definitely keep Adams to save face as I think he's good for them and he's being used as a stopgap to bring Hayes along slowly and not throw him to the wolves. Adams and Zion were actually not that bad, but Bledsoe almost by himself was killing them with his low BB IQ plays. I think if OKC were to eat Bled and Iwundu's deals($20M) while sending back a non-guaranteed contract and getting the 10th pick in exchange for some 2nds, I think NO will take the deal as it will allow them more leverage in regards to resigning Ball+Hart. May even send #18 in addition to a 2nd to get them to think about it. Plus it opens up playing time for Lewis Jr. and NAW so they can see what they have in them.
3) Another option in lieu of Indiana could be Houston. The owner's financial issues have been well documented and I'd consider eating Danuel House Jr.'s deal+D.J. Augustin(both $11M exp., D.J.'s last year is guaranteed for $333,333) for the price of a 1st(maybe MIL 23) in exchange for a 2nd. Gets Houston cap relief
4) Then the final caveat could be sending Thompson, Bledsoe, House Jr. and Augustin to Cleveland for Kevin Love and Cedi Osman. I'd try and use 6+16+future 1st(PHO 22/DEN 23) if the right player is available at that spot. Cleveland would save 31M in the long run and would absolve themselves of the Love conundrum.

Some unrealistic homer trades here...

Cleveland would like to get rid of Kevin Love but they could have done it already for a late FRP...thinking his bad contract could be a factor to get the n°3 pick is crazy.

Getting rid of Bledsoe and Adams for pick n°10 doesn't make sense either. Best case scenario would be to get Bledsoe and swap 18 for 10.

Here’s what I would do

Love
Pick 6
Pick 18
Suns 2022 protected for selections 1-12 in 2022, 1-10 in 2023 and 1-8 in 2024 and unprotected in 2025
Nuggets 2023 1st protected for selections 1-14 in 2023, 1-14 in 2024 and 1-14 in 2025; if Denver has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Oklahoma City by 2025, then Denver will instead convey its 2025 2nd round pick and 2026 2nd round pick

Presti should call about Cam Johnson. It wouldn't be a cheap acquisition but Phoenix is going to have to start paying some of these decent young players at some point and they can't keep them all.
