Westbrook (10.48) | Payne (-2.03) | Augustin (-2.67)
Roberson (-1.17) | Waiters (-4.70) | Morrow (-0.85)
Durant (6.32) | Singler (-2.49)
Ibaka (-1.23) | Collison (-1.11
Adams (1.19) | Kanter (-1.08)

The Warriors have 7 players in the top 65 on RPM. Spurs have 8 in the top 70.

This makes me sad.

Yep. Sad thing is half the fanbase (not you guys) will still say this roster is amazing. It has a few amazing players, but no wing depth, a rookie backup PG, a defensive sieve at backup C, and a bunch of meh. To me, Adams, Payne, and the big 3 are the future.

Oh I thought this is our best roster ever, but boy was I mistaken. It's like a puzzle that can't be solved because the pieces don't fit.

Oh I did for a while, but it became clear to me early it wasn't. The bigs are better, Serge looks worse and as long as Waiters keeps playing the SG is a mess. They still don't have a backup 3. So it may be a slight improvement, but GSW and the Spurs just got better.

Oh and another thing I picked up (via justin over at DT):

augustin morrow and waiters together without kanter since last year is allowing 98.7pp100.

with kanter? 110.4 pp100 allowed

last two seasons:

nick w/o kanter: 102.1 pp100 allowed

nick w/ kanter: 105.9 pp100 allowed

serge w/o kanter: 102.4 pp100 allowed

serge w/ kanter: 113.0 pp100 allowed

adams w/o kanter: 102.6 pp100 allowed

adams w/kanter: 110.7 pp100 allowed

Seems like my eyes have been lying to me.

How do you guys feel about tonight's game? Minnesota's lost their last 6 games. We have been shaky the past few games, but if our team is made of any championship stuff, they will come out tonight with a little salt in their mouth and try to wash it down by drinking some Timberwolf blood. I expect us to make a statement, tonight. They will probably let us down. :[

Pillendreher wrote:Scott Brooks was not a 'very good' or 'great' NBA coach, come on now. I was never a Brooks fan, but I think he was the right choice for the first few years: He got the young guys to buy in, created a nice environment. But afterwards, despite his incredible bad luck, I was always waiting for the next stept, you know, become a smart, savy team.

You were waiting for them to take the step beyond 'best team in the NBA'? Then I would say your expectations weren't in line with reality. We were always a smart team defensively prior to this year, with guys making good rotations, covering for one another, and using length and athleticism to force turnovers and blocked shots. There are three coaches that are 100% undoubtedly better than Brooks right now, Rick Carlisle, Pops and Kerr. He is in the level with the next group and I'd take him over any of them with the possible exception of Budenholzer.

The things that aren't working now were mostly there before Donovan; it's not like we were blowing every other team out of the water with Brooks.

That's not true. First, we were blowing teams out a lot, and our net rating showed it. But even great teams don't blow everyone out, instead they make enough good plays down the stretch to hold leads. Saying the same things aren't working is blatantly false, the problems we're having this year are either different or more pronounced. Especially against teams that are over .500

But you have to ask yourself: What stayed with Donovan gone? The players and the GM. And I think that's what you have to look at. You have to hold both the team and the management accountable.

Then why are you bringing up Brooks? But no, this really isn't the same players we've had. There is far more offensive talent than Scott ever had and yet it looks worse without Russ on the floor.

Why isn't Durant playing with more agressiveness? Why aren't we rebounding on the defensive end? How on earth is Dion Waiters still getting minutes?

Except for the Waiters thing, none of these were issues previously.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

It's true the defense was a lot better with Brooks, but to be fair to Donovan, Brooks' defense went to **** too the moment he got Kanter. I remember our defense being completely terrible right after we got Kanter. Even Ibaka couldn't cover for him so we resorted to trying to outgun opponents with Russ, Kanter and Morrow.

Kanter is just a cancer to good team defense. Matter of fact, Waiters somehow manages to be almost as cancerous defensively which is really insane since he's just a wing player and he seems like a decent athlete to me. Brooks was better, but even he would struggle to make this roster work.

Also, it's going to be a lot easier on your wings when you have a rotation at center of Perkins/Adams than Adams/Kanter and also Ibaka/Collison than the Ibaka/Durant/Collison at PF we are employing. That's why I would love to pull off a straight Chandler for Kanter swap. Our guys have to play a lot more help defense with Kanter out there. We could play more man on man on the perimiter if we know we don't have to worry about Kanter blowing his defensive responsibilities.

Brooks's defense went down when he lost Ibaka, Roberson, and Adams for a month each. He was OK with adding Kanter, but when those 3 went out it went downhill. The D was ok for like 2 games then Serge got hurt, then Robes.

Well, Durant is sucking again. Missing a lot of shots despite getting great looks.

Notes so far through 1st quarter:

I can live with Towns trying for long 2s over Adams.
Durant settles for a contested corner 3 which is an airball. Wished he worked more inside.
Poor rebound control by Adams. Just let Towns rip it out of his hands on that one rebound.
The Westbrook-Adams P&R is real in this one.
Durant's shot is looking a little off, but not that off!
How about that defensive switching that led to the Roberson strip? That was nice to see!
Waiters not letting Wiggins dig into the post. Good job, DW!
Durant settled for another 3. This time in transition. Low IQ shot. We should be digging inside and building/maintaining lead.

EDIT:

Transition defense continues to be suspect. T'wolves taking advantage of that.
How about that absolutely MONSTER rebound by Russ? And then he takes Muhammad to the hole and finishes with a nice little floater! Beautiful!
Wish Collison would have kicked it to Ibaka in the corner on that one play.
Good things happen when KD drives to the hole. Just saying.

How was that not a foul? Waiters got hammered!
