Now Nike/Jordan Brand needs to get a billboard in OKC that says "Happy Russell Westbrook Day" and leave it up indefinitely.

ROFL this city is so crazy about their basketball team. I wish I could go there to see what it feels like :)

Somebody go explain to the GB that he wasn't losing out on any money by not signing the extension. He would've gotten the full 35 max next year either way.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

OKC is hated like we are perpetual winners like the patriots and criticized like we are the Cleveland Browns. The general board is an odd place. I do have fun with some of the warrior fans.

Nah, it's no worse for us than anybody else. It's just a lot of hate there in general.

If this has already been mentioned, I apologize. But we've been hearing from semi-reliable sources that Russ was "close" to signing an extension since late June/early July. The longer it drug on the more I (and probably others) wondered if those sources were wrong. But now, since Westbrook waited until Durant's birthday to sign his extension, you can't help but think he was planning on signing the extension on September 29th all along...right?
Said in a thread about which point guards would make OKC better if they replaced Westbrook:

I think he was planning on it early, but life was hectic (new baby and awards show) that time kinda got away from him. Once that happened he probably decided to signing the extension on the 29th.

I think management learned their lesson about being cheap since they gave Harden away and that turned out to be a complete debacle. It's good to see that they're going all in and signing Westbrook keeps OKC relevant as an elite NBA team for at least the next 4-5 years and that's fantastic for us fans and the state. It's going to be a hell of a year to watch.

I'm so there for team petty.

The only leak I hear about this was a thunder fan from Greece mentioned it in his comments yesterday on Brett Dawson’s online chat. Apparently Greece has some good sources. Who knew?

Hi Brett I am from Greece and our official nba site said that Westbrook is gonna sign his extension according to sources one of the next days. Have you heard something about that? Thanks Brett

Brett Dawson replied:
I have not. I say this all the time, but believe me: If we knew anything about Westbrook and an extension, you wouldn't need to ask it. We'd be telling you.

Nice comments from coach K about Russ and the organization-

“He's one of those exceptions in sport, a guy who never gets tired — not just in a game, but a guy who never gets tired of doing his best and never gets tired of becoming better,”

“He's worth that money,” Krzyzewski said. “And he's at a place that he loves.”

“I don't think there's an NBA player who would say that someone else supports their team in a game any better than their crowd. They're a franchise of really outstanding people who all have ownership in what they're doing. And look, they're supported in a first-class way. I would never call Oklahoma City a small market. When you walk in that arena, it's a huge market.”

I find it highly unlikely those were 'actual sources'. If anything, that was most likely just some shot in the dark kind of thing.

Possibly. Yesterday I heard that Jake Trotter has ran into Woj at espn and he told him a deal was about to get done. This was apparently a day or two ago so something was stirring.
