You said LA wouldn’t trade Deng for Melo. Big difference. If you mean this trade won’t happen because it would have to include Ingram, then I agree. If LA had the cap room to trade Melo for Deng plus assset, I think they do it in a heartbeat. Magic gets way too much credit like he’s some kind of guru.

LA used their space in FA. They would have to include Ingram or Ball to balance the salary. If they had the space to do Deng for Melo then that would be an entirely different conversation. It has nothing to do with Magic being smart it has to do with them being at the cap and no reasonable balancing options.

This is a false statement. There is no way the Lakers didn’t offer him. He is the first piece the Lakers offer in any Kawhi trade discussion.

Let’s say Deng and Ingram are on the table for Melo. What does OKC have to add to Melo to make this work.

Since the Heat seem to be interested per Woj, how about revamping some of those Heat trade ideas?

Going through their roster, I think these guys are possible targets (no 3 team trades, just going to the Thunder):

Tyler Johnson: 38/2, second year a player option
James Johnson: 45/3, third year a player option
Kelly Olynyk: 38/3, third year a player option
Dion Waiters: 36/3
Josh Richardson: 40/4
Justise Winslow: 3/1, RFA

I don't think they should touch those three year contracts. Johnson could be a decent combo guard and would be an expiring next season you could possibly move. On the other hand, that's gonna push the tax bill for the next two seasons from 148 million currently to 179 with this trade.

Josh Richardson to replace Dre and lyles at the four is my ideal starting 5 for this team. I would move Dre, Patterson, Ferguson and 2022 frp if needed to make it happen.

I think the Heat would want to attach one of their bad contracts if they were to trade Richardson. With that contract, they have little to no reason to trade him.

I could see that but I also wonder when the heat are going to realize that theyve become a treadmill team. If they can get a frp and an expiring for Richardson, that seems pretty fair to me. The heat have done a great job accumulating pieces but have no cap space or stars. If they attach a bad contract to Richardson than I don’t know that they get more than expirings in return. It really depends on which direction they want to go.

Westbrook would have to be included for LAL to do it. It was widely reported that LAL wouldn't consider parting with Ingram for Kawhi. Keep in mind that two years into his career Ingram has produced a season with efficiency that Kawhi and PG have each only matched once. If LAL was willing to attach Ingram to Deng to dump that contract it would have been before FA started.

LAL doesn't have to trade Deng to have max cap space next off-season. That is why they signed all the one-year deals. LAL has absolutely no motivation to move any of their young pieces at this point. They are waiting for next off-season to chase the FA trio of Kawhi, Butler and Klay. SA will eventually trade Kawhi, but they are getting offers similar to what Indiana got for PG and they don't like it. They fail to understand that as a rental Kawhi does not have the trade value of his on the court impact, especially when the ask is 2nd and 3rd year players who have high ceilings and Kawhi has not proven to be healthy much less the player he was before missing a season.

Oh for crying out loud enough with this nonsense! Brandon Ingram's so called "efficiency" was a 104 ORtG, 53.6 TS%, 13.8 PER, -1.6 OBPM season. You know how many seasons like that Leonard and George combined for so far? 12.

Wanna know who is close to Ingram in WS/48 in sophmore seasons with those parameters I listed above over the last 10 years (filtered for PPG Leaderboard)?

Image

After his first two seasons in the league, Ingram looks closer to busts than to actual stars. Hell, Andrew "My God, what a contract" Wiggins had better stats throughout the first two seasons of his career.

This whole "NO, NOT INGRAM" bs has to stop. If you're not trading for a true Superstar because you're banking on one guy maybe becoming a perennial All Star five years down the road, you should be fired as a FO executive.

EDIT:

I'm just glad all of those guys are gonna be coming for the veteran minimum and the NBA will allow the Lakers to have 10 guys on the court instead of 5.

Can lakers trade Deng (18m)+ Lance Stephenson and 1st round pick (4.4m) for Carmelo.

Lakers should be able to absorb Melo contract and PG13 will be able to reunite with lance.

ingram's only 20 and had a major leap last season. rpm was roughly middle of the pack for sf. i think he has more promise than wiggins, at least in retrospect for wiggins. just because wiggins stopped improving all that much doesn't mean ingram won't. i'd want to see one more year out of him.

still he wouldn't be an obstacle between acquiring leonard or not.

Yes. That trade could be completed in October. Lance Stephenson can not be traded for 3 months from the date he signs as a FA with a new team.

I don’t think most people are questioning Ingram’s potential. It’s his ability to stay healthy that makes people skeptical.

Of all those players he was 38th of 46 in BPM and that list includes Aaron Afflalo, Doug McDermott, and at 1 year older Terrence Ross.

It's not exactly elite.

After December 15th. I doubt Melo is still on the Thunders roster at that point.

Do they really hold Ingram at that high of an asset? Let’s say the Lakers stand pat. They would have $80 million in salaries. Which means they wouldn’t even have enough for a max contract. If they stretch Deng then they would only have room for one max. I don’t see a way they can keep Ball and Ingram, stretch Deng and get 2 max guys.

If I am the Lakers I am trying to get Kawhi now because if he lands in Philly it just might be enough to keep Kawhi from the Lakers.

I think it’s 3 months from the signing or Decmeber 15 which ever is later. It’s one of the reasons we don’t see many trades in October and November.

A guy I would like us to look at trying to trade for is Bobby Portis. I don't know how available he is but he impressed me a lot on the Bulls squad last season. Still a young PF who can shoot and has shown some defensive potential.

Return to Oklahoma City Thunder
