This might be the first time I've actually enjoyed a SAS rant. I'm dying. The slow buildup into HE WAS ON CRAAAAAAAAACK slayed me.

Re: Off topic thread
r/nba really amuses me sometimes. They act like they're the smartest kid in the room, berating ESPN for their hot takes, while, among many examples, there's currently a post labeling Drummond as "terrible", and even though he had a down season, it's about as hot taky as it gets.
It can be good for the more casual stuff, but the whole upvote system just makes the sub a bunch of circlejerks in attempts to get meaningless internet points. Fine enough if it's for said casual stuff, but the sub takes itself way too seriously, and has very little awareness in how 'casual' it is.
It's why I prefer forums for the more serious discussions. The posts are determined by the order in which they're posted. That's it. So there's no incentive to (regularly) post pandering, circlejerky crap. Yeah there's the and-1 system here, but what I love about it is that (I'm pretty sure) nobody else can see how many likes your post gets, which really defeats the point of trying to amass internet points. It lets you know if somebody appreciates your post without incentivising the act of fishing for them. And even better, there's no "downvoting" to hide opinions that might be just unpopular. If you want to express if you disagree, you're more likely to say why, instead of pressing one button.
Mini rant over I guess. Reddit is great for some things, just annoys me sometimes how unaware the users can be.

PC board here is good for actual analysis tbh. Reddit for memes.

Everyone can see how many +1 your post gets and the total number of +1 is listed under your name right below number of posts. It lets people know at a glance if you are an idiot with 100K posts and only 10 +1s and they should ignore you or if you are new or if people tend to respect your opinion. I don't view it is a popularity contest, but I think the post to +1 ratio can give you an idea about the quality of a poster if there is an adequate sample size.

And if they have more And1s than posts they're probably on the Heat board a lot. Or ONLY post memes on the GB.

It really only matters in hot-take-city, aka the GB tho.

Fair enough. But the most important thing is that the and 1s (or equivalent for most forums, really) don't dictate the order in which the posts are seen. So while there's always going to be 'like whoring', it doesn't have nearly the same influence on content that it does on reddit.

Okay, this NBA awards after the season really sucks. But I still want to watch Westbrook receiving his MVP award. It's going on TV? League pass? Can't find anything about this. Really bad idea from the NBA to do this more than 2 months after the regular season.

Re: Off topic thread
As someone who is exactly the right age to have had Minutes To Midnight and Meteora define my teenage years I somehow completely missed Linkin Park until A Thousand Suns came out my sophomore year of college. My roommate and I must have played that album, beginning to end, at least a thousand times over the next few years. Fortunately, we even went to see them live when they were in KC 5 or 6 years ago, and it was an amazing show. I 'discovered' one of the biggest bands in existence just 7 years ago, and it doesn't feel right knowing that someone as talented, loved, and with so much still to give could be gone so suddenly. If any of you guys are going through this stuff please get help.
