Really hope Presti will trade whatever he can to go higher in this draft because SGA will be ready in 2 years (or less)

First 5-10 games of the season I blamed SGA for not attacking the paint enough but now...he's on fire

Poeltl isn’t a big name but he’s a good rim protector too. I can’t believe the shots he makes sometimes. Anyone else in the league would be swatted.

yeah if SGA keeps shooting around 40% from three, he will be unstoppable

sga's FTr keeps rising. he's now 6th (!) in FTr among players with 25% usage or higher. embiid, giannis, t. young, butler and zion are the only ones ahead. he has a higher FTr than james harden or kevin durant. or luka! which is impressive considering how many threes he's taking (.300+ 3PAr).

here's a list of nba players with seasons .430+ FTr, .300+ 3PAr and 40%+ 3PT: c. billups (4), reggie miller (1), paul pierce (1), kevin martin (1), manu ginobili (1).

only ginobili and martin seasons had usage in sga's orbit this season. and sga is creating almost all of his own offense! 8.1% of sga's 2pt makes are assisted- that's lower than luka, dame, harden... it's the lowest of any high usage scorer this season. he's also assisted on only 30% of his 3pt makes. this split is reminiscent of peak 2017 and 2018 james harden, the nba's isolation king. that shai is able to score as efficiently as he is above, while creating so much of his own offense is unbelievable.

it's foul drawing and 3pt shooting that's allowing him to do that. while shai's FTr has steadily gone up every season, his pull-up three point shooting has been bonkers relative to his first two years. he's shooting over 40% on pull-up threes, ~4 attempts per game. that's buddy hield / kyrie irving / kyle lowry territory. this is up from 31% on 2.3 attempts per game last season. the pull-up / step-back three is one of the few specific things that shai has said he was working on. last year prior to the bubble he was putting work into it, but after toying around the first few bubble games he quit taking them. the shot even looked busted early this season. now he's ripping cord. is the improvement real? i'm a lot more confident in his improved FTr which has progressed steadily to elite status, and less confident he's all of a sudden an elite pull-up three point shooter.

if he is, then the thunder struck gold.

SGA came in at #6 in Vecenie's young player ranking, ahead of Fox, Ja, Lamelo, Trae, and behind Mitchell, Bam, Zion, Tatum, and Doncic.

That’s pretty fair and nice to see shai getting the deserved recognition. I think he’ll surpass Mitchell. Lamelo has a case for being higher but he needs more time. I love Ja but his shooting has been bad. I’m not a fan of Trae. He seems like a player that will be exposed in the playoffs.

Agree that it's a pretty fair ranking. I don't think he will surpass Mitchell though but maybe that's because I'm really high on him as well. Guess Lamelo/Trae ceilings are higher than SGA (not sure) but SGA will likely be the better player.

Give me a SGA/Kuminga or SGA/Cade duo next season and the SGA hype will be sky high around casual NBA fans :D

I think shai fits well with all of the top five guys. That’s what so great about him. Suggs and Shai could be a great pairing. Suggs has already proven he can play alongside other elite guys and help facilitate. I’m also staying on Mobley island even if by myself. 8-)

the bad about SGA is that he's making it more difficult to get any of those guys

But I agree with you. Give me any of those 5 and I will be happy.

If I had to guess it’s mostly precautionary like shai’s knee. I didn’t see him injure it on a specific play last night.

I'm talking myself into Mobley and I hate me for it.

I’ve watched more of his games than any of the other guys. Besides Cade, I think he’s the safest option from among the other top guys. I don’t know if he’ll be a superstar but it’s hard to see him not being a very, very good player at worst.

Yeah Mobley is clearly the safest bet after Cade. I'm still on Kuminga as second pick though (Mobley probably 3rd)

I don’t have high expectations but I was wrong about Roby.
