I'm not sure Presti isn't thinking about holding CP3 this season. Just imagine if OKC gets to the 2nd round next year behind CP3 and Gallinari while Houston misses the playoffs. How much can you get for CP3 next off-season? This trade adds a massive complication to my thinking. On the one hand, keeping CP3 gives you a strong chance of making the playoffs and giving up your pick to Philly and that is not ideal in a rebuild. However, you still have Denver's first and if CP3 rebounds his perceived value you have a huge asset to move that could yield a top 10 pick in the draft and more.
If CP3 is too injured or doesn't lead you to the playoffs you probably don't hurt his value and you keep your pick. Gallinari is coming off your books, assuming you don't trade him, but you might be able to S&T him if you make a playoff run. You are only $3M in the tax right now. A CP3-SGA combo can work because they can both play off the ball, can both shoot and can both defend. CP3-SGA is like the anti-Russ/Reggie combo. You can stretch Roberson and get out of the tax or wait and get out during the season. See what happens and if needed make your moves during the season. If CP3 can push Donovan into a real offense then OKC could have another playoff run before complete commitment to a rebuild next off-season.
