No, I'm not the MPN Brandon. I'm Snoop Dion over on DT, dbthelinguaphile on /r/Thunder and /r/NBA, same on WTLC.

We can sign and trade Kanter. Was talking with Justin on DT last night and thought we couldn't, but we talked about it and I looked into the cap implications. So far as I can tell from CBAFAQ and the actual CBA there's no restrictions regarding sending out a sign-and-traded player.

We can't receive a sign-and-traded player unless we send out salary, but we can sign-and-trade a player of our own.

We lose a good center and a trade chip if we let him walk, but next year the cap jumps by $20mil. See: https://twitter.com/DraftExpress/status/589169246455869440

Quick and dirty calculation says we might actually have some cap room even with KD's cap hold (depending on how we play things with our team options/QOs) but I don't have time to do the full math right now. We for sure won't if we sign Kanter, though.

I'll play with the numbers a bit more when I have time.

Yeah, they can send out whoever, its the incoming that matters. Also, I asked Smitty on the trade board about next season (with an assumption of 12 mil for Kanter) and he said they could carve out around 9 mil I believe.

Cap Holds can't be traded, but they do count as part of the team salary when figuring out if a trade works or not.

If they were attempting to use Cap space to bring in Carmelo Anthony, they would have to renounce Matthews and Lopez. If they were to put Batum together with some other pieces to match salary, they wouldn't have to renounce anyone. Does that make sense?

F it, this came up in the other thread, and I've asked before, but....assume a 90 mil cap in 2016.

OKC with Kanter at 12 mil per year, the rest of the roster the same. Assume they renounce Novak and drop Waiters, any real cap space?

Two years out is tricky, but....

I assume they also renounce Jones and Lamb and Augustin in an effort to have Max space. They keep Durant's Cap Hold (obviously) and pick up TO on Adams, McGary, and Roberson and they could get to around 8 million in space. Far from exact, obviously, but something in that range is reasonable.

Steven Adams is on par with Enes Kanter and fits the team much better. If we HAD to get rid of one I'd jettison Kanter out the door so quick that even Russ couldn't catch him. We all know he can score, that doesn't change that he's such a poor defender that he gives up as much as he gets. He's the perfect player to run our bench offense through and split time with Steven.

I'm seeing why Utah was sick of Kanter fanboys.

OK, so looking at free agents that they could target in 2016 if Presti's looking long-term, guys who might make ~$9mil (I'm trying to factor in cap jump, but there are a lot of unknowns):

Harrison Barnes
George Hill

If Kanter gets signed to a $12mil-ish deal this year and we have the cap space, some of these guys could be valuable additions to a championship squad. Hard to know what Presti has planned. A lot hinges on this offseason.

I don't think that we get Kanter for under $14 million. Also having $8-10 million is like having the mid-level. With a ton of teams having cap room and roster space I don't think the Thunder are that exciting of an option, unless its a certain player in a certain role.

I store everything in a giant Access database. But I dump everything to Excel when I need to work with it. Easier to manipulate everything that way. At least for me. At times like right now, I'll work mostly out of Excel because of the mass amount of updates. Then I upload everything back to Access at the end of each day. And make multiple copies of the Excel sheets. I learned my lesson the hard way on that one!

I still think Lambo and PJ have potential to be solid role players. They are both only 23 years old. I'm a little disappointed they really flourished in OKC but would wish them the best wherever they might end up.

Obviously their perceived value is pretty low. Realistically, what do you guys think we can get for that package?
