Re: The third time's the charm - First Round Series vs Portland
The worst thing that can happen for this team is to by some miracle make this a series and win the two games at home.
They must be swept. It's probably the only way the FO will acknowledge that the team is irreparably flawed and even then it might not work.

It won't. They'd fire Donovan as a pawn sacrifice and replace him with another turd. Then they'd trade for another skillless athlete and hope that they can turn him into a ballplayer.
The only way something changes if upper management gets rid of Presti and Donovan.

Re: The third time's the charm - First Round Series vs Portland
Less than 100 points in both games.
10/61 (16%) from three in the two games.
But I'm sure Presti just thinks this is just a poorly timed cold shooting streak and doesn't think this team has zero good shooters outside of George.

Said in a thread about which point guards would make OKC better if they replaced Westbrook:

Presti and Donovan... Blind and predictable.
They really are kindred spirits.

We are the first team in NBA history to take at least 30 3s in consecutive games and make 5 or less of them:

We need more athletes who can't shoot!!
That'll fix our problems!!

We live and die by Presti's mantra (he said this before the season):
"Second thing would be guys can step up and make some shots. Like that's another way you can get better is we need some guys to make some shots. I think that all of our guys are capable and talented and I expect them to make some shots. That's another way you can become a better shooting team.

I still can't believe Presti let Abrines go without filling the void. Not that he was great by any means, but he was the only bench shooter we really had. He then made no effort to address the wing situation during the buyout market. Instead, we land Markieff Morris, who we don't draw plays up for anyways. It's comical how bad this team is getting exposed. Their physical talent crumbles when they face a coach with half a brain. Drives me nuts watching Portland run the exact same play over and over, successfully. We can't even do that. Hell, half the time we don't even set a screen or make 1 pass.

It's fun to blame Russ though.

I'd like to point out that we're playing one of the worst defensive backcourts in the league with no rim protection whatsoever behind it. We haven't cracked 100 ORtG once. League average is about 110.

Re: The third time's the charm - First Round Series vs Portland
Everyone knows what Russ' problems are. They haven't changed since kd ran off. While Russ isn't your ideal best player the flaws in his game are made worse by poor roster construction and terrible coaching. With Russ declining due to his age and knee issues this is just going to get worse and there will be a lot of blame put on Russ over the next few years about things he really has no control over. Presti is the one who refused to draft shooters. Presti is the one who chases athletes who are lacking in basketball skills over players that are fundamentally sound, but don't jump over the rim or win dunk contests.

In general I think Russ gets too much heat for things that go wrong but this one in particular in entirely on him. Him saying this crap to Lillard basically woke him up

Please spare my with stuff like that. We didn't lose this game because Westbrook talked trash months ago.Revived wrote:Pillendreher wrote:

So OKC, who cant shoot, keep throwing up 3pters instead of attacking a team with a small, defensively challenged back court and their ONLY rim protector out.. Billys gotta go man this is getting ridiculous

Donavan needs to be gone either way. But Presti either needs to change his philosophy or get sent packing this offseason too.
Dude seems to continue sticking to this roster construction mindset of:
Westbrook
One-Way Offensively/Defensively Inept SG
Star SF
One-Way PF
One Way C
Bench Gunner
Misc Non-Shooter That Shoots Anyway
Over the Hill Vet
Athletic Wing That Can’t Shoot #1
Athletic Wing That Can’t Shoot #2
Random Benchwarmer

Re: The third time's the charm - First Round Series vs Portland
We are truly witnessing the full culmination of the idiocy of starting a completely inept offensive player at shooting guard and why I said when Presti decided to keep Andre Roberson over Jeremy Lamb it was a colossal mistake. Ferguson has now been outscored in this series 57-10 by his counterpart McCollum and he looks like a junior high kid trying to play in a Div. I game. The only thing he is supposed to be able to do is defend and he's getting destroyed. He simply has no business being out there and he is putting OKC in such a massive hole that they simply can't overcome it. Put Jeremy Lamb in this series and these two games are completely different. I guess Presti is trying to come up with some niche positional player in hopes that it works out and he ends up looking like a genius because there's no other teams out there starting anybody resembling Roberson or Ferguson. Been watching this nonsense for over a decade now and even though we had arguably the most talented team in history and championship caliber teams the massive hole in the position of starting shooting guard has consistently killed them and it resulted in 0 championships and it goes back to Sefolosha as well who never should have started (Harden clearly should have started). Yes the continued ridiculous shooting of too many 3s by an inept 3 pt. shooting team and low collective basketball IQ and poor coaching is a big part of why they've had so many problems but the starting 2 is problem #1 and it will be going forward as well because it's not changing anytime soon.

Re: The third time's the charm - First Round Series vs Portland
I still have faith in this team in the next 3 years on winning a championship. Russ + Pg are a great duo. Have some faith guys come on. I know we look bad right now but nothing's over yet. Russ had an excellent game 1 and pg a very good game 2. Lillard is doing Lillard things but he can't beat us alone with cj. We need shrooder, ferguson and grant to step up. Especially Grant. This is his third year here he needs to realize he's important to this team and shouldn't be playing like that. It's easy to blame Russ but he's not the problem with this team that's only for the media to talk about. We've seen all these games this year and know damn well Russ is not the reason this team loses when they do. I don't get why we don't try the pick and roll with Adams on every possession against this team it's working every time. They are a worse version of the team we swept on regular season. Let's start some good momentum going back to Oklahoma and even the series.
Return to Oklahoma City Thunder
