Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
Yeah, definitely would prefer the first, but not be very happy with either. Just would be disappointed if Sengun was the pick at any of the three spots, and taking multiple big men in a draft full of quality wings would be a bummer.
Just not the archetype I think really has a ton of value currently. Take wings. Lots of them, and if it's a big later fine but there are good wings and they're always in need. I'm generally ok with just about anyone but all I've seen about Sengun isn't really interesting at all to me. And I'm really not into taking bigs that high, especially multiple bigs. I'm OK with Kuminga or Barnes, and like Moody/Bouknight/Wagner a good bit as well right now.

There are hot reports that indicate that there's a deal on the table with the Cavs, involving Kemba, 6th and 3rd.
Does Cleveland end up with more point guards than Detroit has big men?

If 10 centers gets det the 1st pick then 10 pgs would get the cavs a championship. Simple math.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Not sure if folks read DT but in case:

Good stuff and though not exactly matching my thoughts it's good stuff and have some similarities too.

Sengun is clearly the most polarizing player in this draft in terms of value/ranking. Some experts value him really high while others have him at 20 in this draft.
I don't love the idea of picking him at 6 but I badly want him so Presti needs a plan...

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
Suggs and Mobley are the two guys I liked the most. Keon Johnson is the one who scares me. I’m not as high on Kuminga as the other four guys but I still think he’s still a good pick. Regardless of who we draft I’m not going to worry too much until I see how they look on the floor. Admittedly I don’t watch a ton of college basketball but even those that do just aren’t that good at projections.

Seeming an increasing amount of mocks that have Kuminga falling to us. Still a minority so far, but for instance Chad Ford has been talking about Barnes jumping Kuminga and here's Jeff Goodman with a similar take out just late last night.

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
You guys notice how the evolution of the game towards perimeter/three point shots has really flattened the draft to an extent? You read these mock drafts and so often guys they have in the late lotto all the way down to the second round it'll have a comment akin to, 'if he can improve his three point shooting he's got X potential' (with "X" being anywhere from all star to solid rotation player).
It's kind of fascinating because its just so much easier to teach these pros how to shoot an open corner three than it is to find a guy who can handle it on a string, jump out of the gym and/or is 7' with post moves as the draft seemingly used to be predicated upon.

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
Sengun at 21 doesn't make any sense.
Presti loves athetlic guys that can't shoot so both Scottie Barnes and Kuminga fits that.

I am ok with either Barnes or Kuminga and trading up for Moody or Bouknight. That would make feel a little bit better about the lottery.

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
Combine scrimmages will be on ESPN2 this afternoon and ESPNU tomorrow. Looks like most of the guys playing are 2nd round types, but still useful to get a look at some of the options for our 34/36 picks

My favourite scenario involves Houston drafting Jalen Green with the 2nd pick and the Thunder moving up for 3rd for him.
But I think Sengun is the Doncic of this Draft. Many teams will scratch their heads for years wondering what if they weren't stuck in overvaluing college tape.
Tankathon's big board imo reflects the state of the class the best IMO:

Sengun isn't doncic, but I do share some concerns about passing on a guy who has played really good basketball at a high level because it's unclear if he is athletic enough to play basketball at a high level

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
some euro players are kind of overrated right now but I still love Sengun skillset...if we don't pick him at 6 I don't like our chances to get him even if we move up to +/- 12.

I don’t think Sengun gets past the Spurs, if he lasts that long.

I’m in for Barnes/Kuminga and Bouknight. Then I’d try for Roko in the 2nd

I like Moody. Always appreciate guys who can draw fouls. Corey Maggette was severely underrated
Edit: I posted this off the cuff, but looking into it that might not be a bad comp....

Re: 2021 NBA Draft Thread
Does anyone else get Lamb vibes from Bouknight?
Sengun is getting some wild comparisons. I have seen numerous sites compare him to Tyler Hansbrough.
Sengun is averaging 1.6BPG against mature competition. Tyler had 66 blocks in 142 NCAA games and averaged 0.2 BPG in the NBA.
He isnt Nerlens Noel, but he isnt a dinosaur either. Think of Jusuf Nurkic, he is giant but really good on defense. Moves his feet really well, contests shots, blocks shots, etc. I think Sengun can be just a notch below Nurkic on defense and miles better on offense.
