Bumping this because I’m wondering the same thing

If he is bought out or waived the full amount of the contract still counts against the cap. If he is stretched it will be $9.3M in '18-'19, '19-'20 and '20-'21.

He will gladly let you buy him out for $25.5M. That way he will get his full contract amount with a vet minimum contract.

Damn this exit interview from Melo was unreal. He pointed out how much he sacrificed himself and he was misused :banghead:

Both statements are true. He sacrificed from what he is used to. He was misused by being allowed to start and have such a large role.

He should 'sticku up for his team' on the court, not be some wannabe tough guy who's more into social media trolling than improving on the defensive end.

Also, you may not have noticed but he's improved defensively the last 2 years. He's never going to be good, but effort isn't an issue.

Last off-season was a complete disaster.

If Melo says deferring to a bench role is out of the question, then by all means, tell him he absolutely will come off the bench next season no matter what. I'm all for whatever it takes to get Melo to opt out and go elsewhere.

Any guaranteed salary still owed to the player as the result of a buyout continues to be included in team salary, just as with any waived player.

Carmelo’s exit interview comments are running in the ESPN bottom line. I’m sure Sam is a basket case right now.

Coach Bud would be a better fit for the Thunder.

Yeah, Melos exit interview comments were something else... That dude is never gonna get it.

Looks like he wasn't happy there and very few in OKC were happy with him. I have to wonder if he's gonna pull the same stuff this summer in OKC that he did last summer in NY with demanding a trade but only to a select few teams...?

If he does, his list of teams is going to be even smaller than last year. Any team that would want him for his expiring contract will be rebuilding, so he'll veto any of those deals. Any contender he would accept probably won't have the assets to take on such a big contract without damaging the core of the team.... If a contender/playoff team does have a big contract they're willing to trade, there's probably good reason for that, which means the Thunder likely won't want it.

Basically that's a long way to say that if the Thunder want to see him traded, the only options will be taking back some bad salary or just buying him out. So in other words, the Thunder should probably buy him out.

Parker will retire before sign with another team. Napier would be a good fit for you though, I suspect the Blazers are gonna let him walk this summer.

SYSTEM ERROR: Billy Donovan loaded as default.

SYSTEM ERROR: Billy Donovan has replaced George (not available to this roster) and Patterson with Abrines and Anthony.

SYSTEM ERROR: All players denied offers of the vet minimum. Felton, Abrines, Ferguson, Dakari and Singler were installed by Billy Donovan.

Lottery randomization loaded: OKC gets the 6th pick in the 2019 NBA draft.

This is a joke, unless we really end up with the 6th pick next year then I'm going to totally pretend I was really calling it in April.

I don't really like Bud's fit with our roster tbh. Bud's defensive philosophies are very old school (drop coverages, no trapping/switching) and we have a star point guard who can't get over screens along with a roster of switchable athletes. One of Adams' best qualities is how good he is at hedging/trapping.

This might be unpopular because people only know him as Mark Jackson's comedy partner but I'd personally like JVG. I think he's a good coach for big personalities and makes a huge priority out of knowing his personnel and their limitations. Moreover he just took a team of Semaj Christon's and beat some ass in international ball. Having team USA connections is huge for any NBA team. It's how James Harden developed a relationship with D'antoni and how Durant developed relationships with Golden State.

And he's possibly the biggest Paul George fan in the world

http://newsok.com/article/5568463/paul-george-could-elevate-thunders-d-to-elite

“I know it was a big deal at the time, but I don't think it dominated the conversation like it should,” said ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy to The Oklahoman about the June 30 trade. “To me, this guy … he might be their best player. You've got the returning MVP and Paul George might be their best player. That's crazy.”

Get on a podium and announce MElos candidacy for 6th man next year, call his bluff and see if he opts out.
