The Line-up Now

westbrook/maynor/ cook
harden/ thabo
durant/ peterson
ibaka/ green
aldrich/kristic/ collison

THIS TEAM IS STACKED. The team desperately needed 3 pt shooters and they got that in Cook and Peterson. And now a Gasol like player in Aldrich.

OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER 2011 NBA CHAMPS

Though I personally think Maynor will be traded...

Guys, does the team still have cap space to sign anyone this summer? I'm hoping they go for Frye...

we have some cap doubt we use it though too many guys who need minutes already

as long as we start ibaka and harden next year this is pretty close to an ideal off-season (monroe would have been nice but he was out of reach realistically)

I think there are more moves that are coming. We need a third PG. And our frontcourt is too crowded. We could easily absorb someone with expirings, now and save the team $6 million or so with our remaining space.

harden won't start over sefolosha and ibaka won't start over green krstic is the only variable people get carried away, don't distrupt the chemistry that is in place

Kristic/ Aldrich/ Mullens/ Pleiss
Green/ Ibaka/ White/ Collison
Durant/ MoPete
Harden/ Thabo/ Cook
Westbrook/ Maynor/ ________

Weaver will be cut because of Cook. Collison and MoPete should be delt through the season. I find it interesting the the Thunder r only 7 million under the cap. Maybe they wanted to do that because they did not want to pay David Lee any more that 7 millon in year 1!

Mullens and Pleiss can hangout in Tulsa all year or until a trade is made

He'll be in summer league but I really doubt he makes it. We have too many guaranteed contracts...

Mullens has a contract so even if he's in the D-League he is part of our inactive roster. If Pleiss comes over now, he'll probably have to have a contract too (he wouldn't come to play in the D-League for peanuts).

This is our roster as it currently stands:

Krstic / Collison / Aldrich / Mullens
Green / Ibaka / White
Durant / Peterson
Sefolosha / Harden / Cook / Weaver
Westbrook / Maynor

That's fifteen guys, the maximum allowed (12 active, 3 inactive). To add Pleiss, we'd have to get rid of somebody. Weaver is ineligible to play in the D-League this season and since his contract is unguaranteed this is why I think he will be cut. White is also ineligible for the D-League, but his contract is guaranteed.

L. Williams is also around too. If Pleiss signs a deal, then that probably means one of Krstic or Collison will have to go because that would give us over half our roster in PF / C.

Agreed.

imo presti has just gone by his standard procedure and finds himself in this position (not a bad one by any means) without a paticular plan to consolidate though maybe he has it in mind in a general sense

most of these prospects have minimal value right now

how he manages the next stage, giving contracts to all the quality young guys, is critical we really can afford to pay jeff green 10 million a year if westbrook keeps improving an harden and ibaka turn out like we think they will

Jeff Green won't get $10 million a year from anyone, least of all Sam Presti.

we'll see what happens

im just generally worried about how we're going to keep everyone if they actually pan out

Durant is max

Westbrook is going to command 10-12+ million depending on how much he improves

Harden and Ibaka could end up 10+ million players as well

Harden and Ibaka aren't immediate concerns, and haven't shown yet that they will command that money. Durant will get max. Russ probably a Rondo like deal 5/55. Green will take what is offered or go, IMO.

Westbrook / Maynor
Thabo / Harden / Cook / Peterson
Durant /
Green / Ibaka / Collison
Kristic / Aldrich

Man, the minutes are going to be much different this year. Ibaka and harden are going to have to get more minutes. Aldrich is going to probably get Ibaka-like minutes from last year. Of course Durant and Westbrook are going to get close to 40. Maynor will probably be the same.

I think Kristic, Green, and Collison are going to see a major dip in their minutes next year. If i remember correctly Green played more minutes than anyone else last year and i cannot see that happening again this year. I have no idea when Cook or Peterson are going to play at all

EDIT: Minutes per game from last year:
Durant - 40
Green - 37
Westbrook - 34
Thabo - 29
Kristic - 23
Harden - 23
Collison - 21
Ibaka - 18
Maynor - 16

That is actually 241 minutes, there are 240 minutes to give a game.

Way i see it next year:
Durant - 37
Green - 30
Westbrook - 34
Thabo - 20
Kristic - 15
Harden - 30
Collison - 10
Ibaka - 30
Maynor - 15
Aldrich - 20

I have Green, Thabo, Kristic, Collison losing some big minutes and Harden, Ibaka, and Aldrich gaining big minutes.

I think Alrich is taking all of Collison's min's. I don't see Collison and MoPete playing alot this year at all. The Thunder should really bring in a player like David Lee!

You know Mac I don't think you need to worry about them getting rid of Weaver. Maybe I'm wrong about it, but I just have a feeling that OKC hangs on to him for a while.

I think Weaver sticks around for a few reasons. Presti understands the value of a defensive player, coming from the Spurs, seeing what value a guy like Bruce Bowen can bring to a team.

Sure the Thunder have Thabo, who is a great defender, but the guy can't shoot.

Weaver is an ok shooter. If he can find a consistent 3 ball, play the D he does and can be a decent ball handler/playmaker like he has shown in the past, he will have a roster spot here.

Lastly Weaver played at WSU, and the Thunder moved from Washington State. There is still a connection there. And in time I think the connection will be smaller because time tends to create distance. But if Presti continues to draft guys from WSU, UofW, and Gonzaga will keep that connection flowing.

In the '08 / '09 season I went to see the Thunder play the Celtics at the Garden here in Boston. Even as a lifelong Celtic fan I was impressed with the potential of the team. I believe Westbrook was a rookie that year. When they gave the Lakers a tough time this year my son, who was at the game with me, reminded me that I said that within three years this team would be a championship contender. With the addition of Aldrich they are clearly on their way. Size was the key component missing; I believe he fills the bill.

I was bummed when the Thunder didn't get Blake Griffin, but this year's pick will go a long way to striving for that championship.

Congrats...
