Tibor Pleiss

Post#1 » by fallacy » Fri Jun 25, 2010 2:58 am

Here is a little info on the newest OKC Thunder player. He will most likely be stashed in Europe for a season or two like Ibaka.

He is a 7'1" C from Germany with a good post game, good jump shot, and TONS of potential.

What was the rumored deal for Tibor Pleiss? Was it $3 million cash?

He will come over in the 11'- 12' season or the 12' - 13' season. Good pick just for cash.

Is this a done deal or a rumor? I can't find the source claiming this trade.

Apparently Pleiss will not return to Germany and will remain over here for the '10 - '11 season

Can't imagine that happening. Half a year ago he was set about waiting at least 3 years to go to the NBA. Even though that has changed, I don't think he wants to come over this season.

Anyways, he's a great fit for you guys. He and Aldrich should become a nice C tandem providing you with rebounding and interior defense.

Offensively, his jumper is already pretty solid and only getting better (can hit threes, but is especially good from 15-18 feet and is a very solid free throw shooter) although he doesn't get a lot of touches on offense. He has a solid hook shot, scores off of offensive rebounds, can hit a fade-away or turnaround J and with added strength should be a solid low post threat in a few years. He had some offensive outbursts this season, including a 26 pt (7-10 fg, 11-15 ft), a 20 pt (8-11 fg, 4-7 ft) and several other double digit scoring games, although, as I mentioned, he isn't featured at all in his team's offense.

Defensively, he just alters so many shots with his size and length. He is a very good shot-blocker (best shot-blocker in german league despite playing only 19 mpg), although he doesn't settle for blocks, showing good fundamentals. He's also one of the best rebounders (at least Top 3) in the league.

He's 4th in the league in efficiency rating per 40 minutes and played an excellent finals series this year. All that at only 20. You guys got yourself a legit NBA center. If I had to compare his game to that of an NBA player, I'd say he's going to be a longer, better rebounding Krstic with shotblocking or a similar player to 2009-10 Marcus Camby (not as good though).

OKC is supposedly going to entice Pleiss to stay in the US to develop, I guess in the D-League. Since we got him in the second round, OKC can offer him a roster spot and a larger salary since rookie scale does not apply to second round picks. This would use up a roster spot, though, and would make our crowded front court even more crowded. I'd rather leave him in Europe for a year like Ibaka.

Been watching all the film I can on him
He looks like skin and bones
Hes not ready for the NBA
Just stick him in Italy on a higher level team

What are the chances he stays? I guess the owner paid 3 million to pick this guy @ that pick. Do u think Sammy will offer this kid a contract he can not refuse?

If he does come over what does that do to the roster. It looks like MoPete and Nick Collison don't have pt here plus they make up 14 million of expiring contracts.

Even if we wanted to, after the Aldrich trade becomes official our roster will be full. Weaver will have to be cut or there will have to be other trades made to free up a roster spot if Sam Presti wishes to sign Pleiss.

The entire roster is going to pick on Tibor just like Homer Simpson.

Russell Westbrook
Kevin Durant
Jeff Green
Nenad Krstic
Eric Maynor
Serge Ibaka
Nick Collison
James Harden
Thabo Sefolosha
Cole Aldrich
Daequan Cook
Tibor Pleiss (assuming he stays here)
Kyle Weaver
D.J. White
Byron Mullens
Morris Peterson
Latavious Williams
Ryan Reid

That's the 18 people we have. We're only allowed to have 15 on the roster and 12 active. That means 3 of those have to be cut and 3 of them have to be inactive.

Dude Weaver is so gone. He can not play the point or shoot like Cook. Sorry. I do not think the new Center will be on the team this season. But, I love what Sam is trying to sell. This team is missing one thing and one thing only a PF! Collison and MoPete Should be moved and the Thunder need to bring in a PG and a David Lee!

Sam Presti has stated that Pleiss will remain in Europe for at least this season.

Don't underestimate the german education system. most students have at least 5 years of english classes. and it's not as if english were chinese or another unlearnable language.

and in germany's first division, what do you think what the main language is? do you think casey jacobsen or elton brown, who were on his team last season, have mad german skills, so they communicate in german? all that paired with an american coach?
brown btw became tibor's backup during the season because of the huge improvements tibor made. and brown was a former mvp and league champ in israel, where his team beat maccabi tel aviv, which shows he can ball.

Kind of like how you think Krstic is part of the core, yet Presti drafted two centers this draft?

Anyway about Pleiss, I hope Presti keeps him over in Europe for a season too.

He can and has ran the point in limited minutes
Good enough to be the 3rd PG
Weaver shot 36.8% from 3 this year in the NBA (33.3% in the D-league)
Cook shot 31.7% from 3

Also Cook's FG% was only 32% while Weaver's was 36.4%
