Where's Wally Walker these days?

Post#1 » by wiff » Sat Jun 26, 2010 3:32 am

I wonder what bar stool Wally Walker is sitting on these days being painfully drunk?

If he's not, he should be.

Being an avid fan of this team long before it moved to OKC it is astonishing to see how bad Wally Walker truly was.

Don't get me wrong we knew he was bad. In fact I donated money, along with other guys that called ourselves "Sonics Fans United", to hire a pilot to fly a banner over Key Arena that read, "Go Sonics, Fire Wally!" Ahhh good times.

But to see what Presti is doing with this team is amazing. He is masterful with managing trades. Leveraging other teams wants, to fill his needs.

Personally I love how he is managing the cap. I don't think OKC was really on the radar of any of the more desirable free agents. I guess David Lee could have been an option but I don't think he would have been the solution to our lack of interior "D". Add that to the price tag and for me it wasn't really a nice fit.

Presti has had the fortune of being able to gut a team and have a true franchis player with Durant to build around. And with rebuilding typically comes a a lot of high draft picks so Durant, Green Westbrook and Harden were all relatively easy selections some better than others. Some easier than others, but the way Presti went about aquiring Cole Aldrich was sensational.

No I have gone on record before questioning Cole's maturity. He looks like a douch in that youtube video where he won't let a six year old get a shot off without sending it to half court. But when it comes to potential and being the most NBA ready Center, he was/is a great pick for his team considering they were able to move use the 21 and 26 and some cap space to land him. Mo Pete isn't a bad guy to have come off the bench plus he is an expiring contract which Presti always seems to parlay into something productive down the line. And having 18mil coming off the books next season to re-sign Durant is not to shabby either.

One last note. In three years Wally Walker drafted 21' of bust. In two years Presti has drafted 21' of hope. Mullens, Aldrich and Pleiss.

And although on average drafted much lower than Wally's 21' of crap, I have a much better feeling of success, but only time will tell this one.

PG Westbrook, Maynor, Weaver
SG Harden, Thabo, Cook
SF Durant, Green, Peterson
PF Ibaka, Collison, DJ White
C Aldrich, Krystic, Mullens

Pleiss left over seas for a year until Kyrstic, Collison, and Peterson expire.

I love the look of this team for oh about the next 12 years or so.

Presti's had much higher draft selections than Wally Walker ever had. He's still light years better, though. Wally was pretty inept.

good post wiff. I am really happy with the direction this team is going in. Presti understands a few things that most people don't. Rome wasn't built in a day. He had to lay down the foundation, which was work ethic character and humility. Kevin Durant and Jeff Green was exactly the 2 players to help do that. Then he kept building the foundation with the selection of Westbrook and Ibaka. Along the way he picked up a high high high character guy in Weaver who is probably our most humble and highest worker in the community. Also DJ White who loves the game. The additions of Harden and Aldrich give the foundation even more strength. In the background he added a few pieces like Pleiss, Mullens who might not be flashy statues out front but they are the book cases and chairs etc.

I think he is very close to having the foundation being built. Once it's built he lets it grow and mature together. The reason he does this is 5 to 7 years from now the foundation will be so structurally sound and indestructible that nothing can break the building. Sort of like this team.

I think in 5 years from now this team will be so mentally tough, and physically tough nothing will be able to break them.

Ah yes, remember the good ol' days when you thought both Petro & Wilcox would be deserving $60M extensions? Whoops!

Wherever Wally is, I doubt he'd ever be caught dead talking about how great the Blunder are in an OKC forum. I at least respect his integrity.

It was Wilcox at 10mil for 3 years Dick. If you are going to mock me at least get the numbers straight. But weren't you the one hyping up Damien Wilkins, Dick? Talking about how he is the only guy that can carry the team?

As far as the rest goes Dick, I just have to ask, how does my dick tate? Gooble gooble, Dicky.
