Recaps of games

Post#1 » by Clangus » Tue Jul 6, 2010 12:50 am

Hi guys

can someone please give me a recap of today's game (and continue recaps for future games)

The Summerleague games are to early for me here and they also are not really easily downloaded to watch later.

I know there is a summer league thread, but as the games progress its going to be harder and more annoying to read through those threads just to get a overall idea of who did what well etc.

So anyone who watched the game can you please fill me (and any interested others) on how the game went, who looked good, who didn't. How people scored their points. Who had a good game that didn't translate to the box score. etc etc.

Thanks in advance

also if soneone could put the recaps here of future games too that would be awesome!

Offense looked real crappy until the end of the game, defense was 'eh'.

Ibaka was the best player on the floor, IMO. He made some nice moves in the post and was active on both ends. He's still setting bad screens and still going for the ball instead of going for position. Didn't box out. Hurt his ankle in the second half and limped off. Ibaka does look like he's put on weight (the good kind).

Maynor was catatonic for most of the game until the end when he started making plays. I think he's still inconsistent with the half court offense. Sometimes he's aggressive, other times he just hands the ball off and waits in a corner somewhere. I think he has to be more assertive like he was to end the game. He made a three pointer which was nice. Got beat on defense a few times badly by the Boston PG. He and Mullens seemed to run the PnR well.

Harden got to the line a lot. Still shows an ability to get into the paint but had trouble finishing. The D-Leaguers did foul him a lot, though. He had some nifty passes at the end of the game that didn't get converted. Missed some wide open threes. He finished with 19 points on 6 FGA which is excellent, so you can't really fault him for his role offensively, I just want to see him finish more consistently. He was active defensively. Took a charge, had some steals, and a nice block towards the end.

Mullens made his free throws. He has Ibaka syndrome where he doesn't finish strongly at the rim sometimes. Only he's got three inches on Ibaka. I'd like to see more of him on the post, he seems content shooting jumpers. Late in the game he got involved in a lot of PnR action wtih Maynor and Harden. He blew some easy finishes but Boston fouled him a lot in those situations because they don't have the size to contest him. To Mullens' credit, he made his freebies. He still looks lost defensively for the most part and slow to react. He has great hands catching the ball in PnR but his hands are poor on the boards. Didn't show any improvement as far as positioning for rebounds goes.

DJ White did what he usually does: efficient offense and horrible defense. He looks out of shape and he was clearly winded for much of the game. It's a shame because he scores so efficiently, with the jumper, but his effort and awareness on defense just leads to bad things.

Kyle Weaver looks about ready to be cut. He made a stupid play on a fast break with Harden wide open. He was beaten on defense a lot, too.

L. Williams and M. Shakur didn't get much run. Robert Vaden hit a three but was otherwise invisible.

I'd like to see more PnR with Mullens in the next game to start. I think it was an encouraging end to the game. Maynor controlled the tempo to take the win and Harden just got into the paint whenever he wanted. But you'd expect that. I hope they play better tomorrow.

Thanks Slick!!
Interesting that Mullens has such good hand on O but not on the boards. I guess that just shows he still has potential to improve in that area.

I thought watching Mullens and Ibaka was encouraging. Harden looked uncomfortable being the primary scoring option, but worked very well ball handling. I would like to see a pure scorer for the bench, Daquaen Cook might help that, someone like Damien Wilkins in the Sonics last days, (I agree with Slick Weaver is not it).

I agree with a lot of what Slick said.

Mullens does have great hands offensively but he just does't seem to want to bang in the post at all And for some reason he just doesn't clean the glass very well. He's pretty soft for such a huge guy. But he was pretty active offensively. Honestly I just see a slightly bigger Nenad.

Ibaka showed a nice little hook in the paint with his right hand. Good "D" too. Cross your fingers his ankle heals up real quick.

Was it me or did Harden seem to have gained weight(the bad kind) too? Harden missed a load of lay ups. He would make a million dollar move to get to the paint, and then he'd short arm it with a 2 cent finish. But he made some nifty passes.

Maynor flat out sucked the first half. The entire team had only one assist in the first half. But Maynor played well enough in the second half to make up for it a bit.

Weaver who I'm pulling for looked really poor.

DJ White hit a jumper where he did nothing to shake the guy. He simply stood there and went up with the ball hoping he could get the shot off before the guy blocked it. So he ended up taking a 13ft jumper with a hand directly in his face. Not what I would call a "good" look. Maybe it was due to him being winded?

Decent win because of the fourth but it's hard to get too excited though because this team should have crushed the Celtics Summer League squad.

Mullens is a lot more active and athletic than Krstic. His problem is he's kind of basketball stupid. He has poor fundamentals, and he doesn't know how to use his body. Krstic knows where to be on offense and defense, he does the best with his limitations. Mullens kind of gets lost a lot. It's to be expected, though...

3 boards for Bryon Mullens in 28 minutes?

Can you say walking vagina?

I didn't watch todays game so I'd love to hear an explanation for 3 rebs in 28 minutes.

3 boards! :eek1:

His game is 8ft to 15ft. He isn't close enough to the basket on offense. N' he is out of position on defense.

He's just poor at keeping position in the paint. Doesn't know how to use his body, and he has butterfingers when he goes after the ball in rebounding situations.

No Weaver in todays game. Sounds like someone is gone!

iteresting stat to look at over the first 3 days +/-

I think that has more uses in Summer league because the talent level isnt as far apart between the starters and the bench.

Weaver was out due to planned rest. It had nothing to do with him being cut, but it's still probably likely he will be cut.

Does cutting Weaver really sound like a Presti type of move? If anything he will trade him for a second round pick.

Or package him with another player. But to simply cut him and get nothing in return, doubt it.

His contract is unguaranteed. Maybe he'll be cut and signed to the minimum. But there's no way Sam Presti is paying Kyle Weaver ~$1 million to be the 13th man when he doesn't have to. Wasting money doesn't sound like a Sam Presti move.

I know you like Weaver but he hasn't really done anything to warrant his place on the roster.

Watson was paid 6mil by the Thunder last year and he wasn't even on the roster.

Etan Thomas made about 7mil sitting at the end of the bench last season. So that's close to 13mil for pretty much jack squat. So 1 mil for the final roster spot isn't much in my opinion. But that's just me.

Plus I feel his play his rookie season and even last year before the injuries has proved the guy belongs in the league.

Just checked the box score looks like Weaver came alive a bit. 21pts and 9dimes.

Didn't have the best fg% but still a decent performance.
