You got Durant we got Cho!

Post#1 » by BballFanAddict » Mon Jul 19, 2010 5:00 pm

Okay, so I would much rather have Durant. But, in a small coup / victory, we have stolen away Presti's right-hand man! Ha! Take that!

Okay, so it probably means nothing at all. But, still, take that!

The idea of posting this sounded so much better 1 minute ago.

Despite the miserably failed attempt at humor above, what should Blazer fans expect with Cho? We have heard he is somewhat a cap guru and basketball talet evaluator. Is that true?

He is a Cap and CBA expert. Sam Presti always gives praise to him for his knowledge of the CBA.

Not sure what his role was with the team in terms of player development or how good of a talent evaluator he is though. Presti doesn't leak much information out to the public.

Sounds a bit like our old asst GM, Tom Penn. Portland, like OKC, has a tremendous scouting team in place already, so hopefully that shouldn't be a problem. I will be anxious to see what he can do when it comes to trades. We are in need of a consolidation deal

Asst. GM Troy Weaver is more tha talent evaluator than Cho was for OKC. As stated, Cho was the cap guy and contract negotiator. He's excellent at that part of managing a team but his eye for talent is anyone's guess. Cho was among Sonics mgmt when they extended Vin Baker a maximum contract offer coming off his out of shape lockout year.

This is a good hire for Portland.

I have no idea why but for some reason i think he was the guy who was responsible for plucking Thabo from Chicago. Don't quote me but for some reason that is bouncing around in my head.

One of Rich Cho's first acts as a Sonics employee was to create computer software that ranked players according to user selected criteria. Baker was supposedly rated highly in this software according to some of the criteria they were using. I will try to see if I can find and news articles from that time to corroborate this.

No, Rich Cho was Director of Basketball Affairs starting in the fall of 1998. Baker was signed to his extension in the 1999 offseason. Baker was the first big signing that occured while Rich Cho had any significant influence.

Ron Adams coached Thabo in Chicago and was a big fan of him and the Chicago FO really liked Thabo but he just had no place there. OKC got thabo for a late second round pick... which they could have easily just bought.

Wrong we got him for a late first round pick from you guys that turned out to be Taj Gibson.. The Bulls are pretty happy with that deal.
