3 team trade proposal/what's the THunder fans take?

Thunder trade: Westbrook, Collison, Green, Aldrich
Thunder receive: Paul, Oak

Westbrook is a good young player, but Paul is once every ten or twenty years type of great. Oak will almost certainly give you better production then Aldrich over the next 3-5 years. Overall they move into contention right away, avoid going into the tax, and avoid having to pay Green next year. They also have two expiring contracts left if they need to add another player during the year. (Jamison?)

Hornets trade: Paul, Oak, Posey
Hornets receive: Dampier, Collison, Green, Aldrich, DJ

The Hornets can't pass up the chance to get prospects and dump bad contracts. They already have a talented pg and sg so here they get what they need most, bigs. Waiving Damp's unguaranteed contract saves them a ton of money. DJ is an above average backup who is from NO.

Bobcats trade: Dampier, DJ
Bobcats receive: Westbrook, Posey

Bobcats get a nice upgrade at the pg spot. They get the most out of Damp's contract without going over the tax.

I had to think seriously who you referrd to with "Oak".
That used to be Charles Oakley's nickname 10 years ago.
Nevermind.
So you are talking about Okafor...allright.
Would be not a bad trade, under other circumstances, but at the moment I would not touch this teams core players.
So simply: NO!

Keep Westbrook, although Paul is the best PG in the league.
Also, we would need to give up Green, Aldrich and Collison in addition and "only" get back an Okafor.
No, thank you.
Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we are here we might as well dance!

Personally I think Westbrook and Green is a good trade for Paul. However NO has Collison so they don't really need Westbrook. A third team could probably be worked in the mix.

Now I also think Okafor individually is better than either Nick Collison and Krstic. But I don't think he is worth what he is getting paid. Both Collison and Krstic are expirings so they could give NO cap relief. I would not give up Aldrich.

Most I would give up for Paul and Okafor is Westbrook, Green, Collison and Krstic.

I that's a fair package, NO gets legit young talent and cap relief along with decent front line help.

In my opinion, I'm sure the Nets would be more than willing to take Westbrook and send back value to the Hornets.

From a talent perspective, it makes sense. Chris Paul and Kevin Durant are both Top 10 players in the league, healthy CP3 is probably even Top 5 and Kevin Durant is fast approaching that distinction (if not already there). With LBJ sharing the load with Wade / Bosh, a CP3 / Durant tandem would probably be the most productive in the NBA.

Emeka Okafor is part of the cost of acquiring CP3. He's a negative value asset due to his long term contract (although he's not a horrible player).

I think this particular iteration of the deal is an easy 'yes', assuming Chris Paul's health is deemed to be sufficient. I'm a huge Russell Westbrook proponent, but I can't envision any scenario in which he approaches CP3's caliber. Chris Paul had a couple of the most productive seasons of a point guard ever. To be able to acquire CP3 without giving up either Serge Ibaka or James Harden - that's a terrific deal. Throwing away Cole Aldrich hurts, but Emeka Okafor (though overpaid) probably does much of what we're expecting from Cole anyhow.

However, this trade shoots a gaping hole into our power forward rotation. I'm not thrilled with the notion of Serge Ibaka starting, and I'd be even less thriled about him starting next to Emeka Okafor. He's also be our only natural PF next to DJ White with Nick Collison gone.

In the end that concern is mitigated by the prospect of playing Paul / Durant together while holding onto the young guys. I'm afraid, though, that if we want Chris Paul we'd have to give up a lot more than this.

I would love Charles Oakley's experience and toughness on this team.
Has he got anything left though?

It's an interesting proposal, but just how much better would this team be with CP3? Maybe I'm just biased, but I would prefer to watch Westbrook develop into the stud he's going to be. He'll be able to lock down any PG in the league in a couple of years, which is extremely valuable in a league that is seemingly filled with all-star guards.
