Resign Jeff Green?

Post#1 » by mikem1 » Fri Sep 17, 2010 4:00 am

Dayam. I just found this blogger's piece on the Jeff Green quandary and Oklahoma City. I wonder how Kevin Durant would feel about his boy being traded. Or maybe he would just want the best chance to win. I think it'd be awesome to keep him if we can get him at a reasonable price. But sooner or later he's going to have to take a bench role - and I don't know if he'd be down with that ... either way, it's an interesting read.

I think Jeff Green should come back. I like the way he played against my team in the first round last year. So I say keep him and bring in a Center that can play defence and run with you team.

I really dont know what to think of JGreen.
I mean, I like him and he fits in very well, but he just isnt a PF in this league.
He is a strong SF and I think he would blossom on a team where he could play 35 minutes at the SF spot.
There is no way he could guard a Pau Gasol or a Chris Bosh or even a Carlos Boozer type of player.

I would love to get Iguodala, but we would have the same issue with him, where would you play him, SG?
Also, I would not wanna trade Thabo, he is too valuable and underrated.

Kevin Love would be agreat fit at PF for the Thunder and I would trade JGreen straight up for him, or even include Krstic in a package.

I agree wth you. I would also like to package JGreen and Krstic for Jason Thompson and Samuel Dalembert. We got a PF that can score and a Center that defend and rebound.

U guys got it all wrong. The Thunder r going to ride the contract till the new labor aggrement. They will let him hit free agency and they have the right to match any offer. If Sammy thinks it is a fair deal he will bring Green back as the 6th man. Green is a valuable part to this Team and could help a ton carrying this team if Durant got injured for a period of time.

The Thunder are fine they have a Great 9 man rotation. They added Aldrich which will add some strength in the front court.

Jeff Green is a Shane Battier type of player. You shouldn't just let that go unless you're trading him for something valuable.

However, you're crazy if you think Minny is trading Love for Green. You would have been better off trying to trade for Al Jefferson.

I agree that Presti is going to let the market set the price for Green. And when another team offers Green a contract depending on how much it is Presti will either match or cut strings and let him go.

But if Ibaka ends up winning the starting job and Green has an "ISSUE" with that Presti could just trade Green at the deadline.

Green is a tweener, he really is a combo forward, and a good one. He would be an amazing 6th man.

Green seems like a humble guy and a "team" guy but until Brooks says "we are going to move you to the bench because we feel you would be most effective there", we don't know how big his ego really is.

I'd love to keep Green around because I think he does do the little things well and is a Battier type of guy.

But if someone overpays, which is very possible adios Jeff.

re-sign or resign?

Anyway, I'll be surprsed if:
A) Ibaka is ready for the starting job this year
B) We let Green go in free agency unless there is a stupid offer on the table.

Maybe under the new cab it will be different but under this one Green would be getting 10-12 million, look at what Rudy Gay got and he's not all that much better than Green

I think the new system will be different. Make contracts will earn less money, and there will be structure to carry 2-4 max guys and still be able to put talent around them.

I think the Thunder can stay competitive and grow into contenders with Green at PF, but like others have said you need a real defensive anchor/top 5 rebounder to cover his short-comings at that position.

I see the Thunder being a better built Orlando as soon as they find a really good big man.

Well the ceiling just got put on his contract. Noah signs a 5year $60 million deal. Rondo signed a 5 year $55 million deal last year too. Both players are way more explosive and more important to their teams.

The Thunder probally aggree on that. I could see a 5 year $40 million extention for Jeff Green @ the end of the season. That is 8 per which is plenty. But, the Thunder probally want to get a deal done with Westbrook before giving Green 8 Million

Play him off the bench as a 6th man, but assure him that he will get his minutes. That way he won't feel that his role on the team is being threatened in any way.

I think an offer of 5 years 42 Million is fair for him. Anything over 10 mil a year is too much.
