There is no reason we shouldn't end up as the 2 seed

Post#1 » by whatisthis » Fri Feb 4, 2011 3:58 pm

We play NOONE the rest of the season. Our SOS is .465 the rest of the way. For comparison, the easiest schedule in the league up to this point has been Atlanta's at .476.

If we can get 2 wins @ Phoenix and @ Utah, the only real difficult games we have left are

@ San Antonio, @ Orlando, Los Angeles, @ Atlanta, @ Miami, @ Portland, @ Denver, and @ LA. Other than that we play a bunch of bottom feeders.

This team doesn't come to play every night, even against 'bad' teams. Even though the schedule is favorable, they'll have to play better to get the 2 seed.

We're 2 games back and here is LA's schedule the rest of the season

@ New Orleans
@ Memphis
@ Boston
@ New York back to back
@ Orlando
@ Charlotte back to back
@ Cleveland
Atlanta
@ Portland back to back
Los Angeles
@ Oklahoma City
@ Minnesota
Charlotte
@ San Antonio
@ Atlanta
@ Miami
@ Dallas
Orlando
Minnesota
Portland
Phoenix
Los Angeles
New Orleans
Dallas
@ Utah
Denver
Utah
@ Golden State
@ Portland
Oklahoma City
San Antonio
@ Sacramento

If we can't catch LA, someone needs to be fired/traded. As for Dallas, I think injuries/lack of depth will take its toll

I think whatisthis is right, even if the thunder dont come to play every night they've learned to close out games much better than last year (sorta) and the schedule difference is too drastic for the thunder not to move up to rankings to 2 or 3

our next 6 games before the all-star break...........

@ Phoenix winnable, but PHX has been playing well at home recently, toss up
@ Utah back 2 back, tough game
vs. Memphis they always give us trouble, Gay usually plays KD well and they have bigs we lack
@ Sacramento should win it, i bet it will go down to the wire
@ Golden State back 2 back, should win but its b2b so who knows
vs. Sacramento definitely a win if we lose the first, a split at worst

4-2 at worst would be ok, I think we lose one of the PHX/Utah games, Memphis is a toss up. I see us beating Golden State, one of the PHX/Utah games and at least 1 of the Sacramento games. So 4-2 most likely, 5-1 on the optimistic side.

4-2 would be great with four road games, two of them back to backs.

call me a homer, but I think we go 5-1 heading into the all-star break.

I still think Dallas will get the #2 seed. I looked at their schedule and its cake. Assuming we take care of business we should get the #3 seed, and LA and NO will battle it out for the #4 seed.

I think the Thunder win tonight, lose tomorrow (if D-Will plays, I haven't been keeping up with him).

The seeding seems irrelevant, the goal should be to improve as a team. This team doesn't bring it consistently defensively, is too dependent upon isolations offensively and Durant and Westbrook are wonderful individual players but not as good together as they could be.

I agree with this, and as much as I dislike the offensive philosophy, you can't argue with the results (tied for 5th in ORTG).

Getting a higher seed means HCA, which means better chance at advancing in the playoffs, which means more experience for our young players. The goal of every team is to win a Championship, and part of that is to improve everyday. I do agree that we need to bring the defense more consistently for us to even get out of round 1.

Props to dream_catcher_9. Winning this back to back makes your prediction very realistic!

This is also around the same time(last year) that we started to play really well. From January 29th till April 6th we went 24-7. That April 6th game was to Utah as we all remember and our momentum sort of stopped.

Hopefully we can make a similar run this year.

Memphis and Golden State seem like trap games.

meh Memphis doesn't worry me because they're not great on the perimeter & its at home. golden state on the other hand is a horrible matchup on the road and its the end of a back to back with the previous game being a 10 pm ET start time

i think we probably lose the golden state game, but you never know

I can think of two reasons we shouldn't end up as the 2 seed.

Scott Brooks and Jeff Green.
