Kendrick Perkins signs Extension

Post#1 » by slick_watts » Tue Mar 1, 2011 3:07 pm

Per Darnell Mayberry: http://blog.newsok.com/thunderrumblings ... extension/

Very interesting. The maximum he could have extended for was about 4 years $35M, using some cap maneuverability similar to what we did with Collison. Either way, it should be for a nice price if he is healthy.

What's the maximum contract he can get?
Isn't it 22M/4yr, according to current CBA?

The Thunder got some cap space to use in the trades, so they had some maneuvering they could do that the Celtics couldn't"

"By simultaneously acquiring cap space with the underpaid Kenny Perk, OKC can now do a Blatche with him. OKC can use their cap space to renegotiate Perkins's current $4,640,208 salary up to as much $6,696,720. From there, they can concurrently offer a new four year extension totalling a a maximum of $33,818,436, or any number below that that they feel happier with.

Add in the extra negotiated salary, and that's over $35 million for four years that OKC can theoretically offer him, as-near-as-is $9 million per. In contrast, Boston could only offer circa $6 million per. It's a significant difference"

So four years, $34M is the maximum they could offer, which would be fair value for both parties. Assuming he stays healthy.

It wouldn't surprise me if it was right around 4 years/30 million. The reason I was most shocked to see him leave the C's was because after he turned down the initial offer (which was reported to be at 4 years/30 million), Perk denied that and said it was more like 4 years/22 million. Then went on to say 4 years/30 million would have been a completely different story. I don't have the link but it was definitely posted on the C's board when this came out.

@WojYahooNBA: Kendrick Perkins' contract extension with OKC pays him $34.8 million over four years, league source tells Y! Sports.

Good value, assuming he's healthy.

8.5 per year. WOW! What a steal. Presti wonderful work! How many of you think Green will get more money than Perk.

Presti must really be confident about that knee. He probably did that deal with bobcats to create extra cap room for the salary upgrade. He's probably one of those maths genius back in school.

I wonder how much green will get this offseason. The trade biggest comparison will be their new contract. No way I see anyone leaking how much we had offered for green's extension though.

So next season big issue is Westbrook extension right?

Green will likely get paid just as much, maybe more.

After this signing, this trade was a steal for us

Kind of off topic but did you guys know that Perkins can't wear his number 43 because that number is retired in the thunder franchise from back in its seattle days?

Kind of weird. If anyone knows what number he will wear now, I would like to know.

Personally, I would have liked to see him play first, but I'm assuming it was cheaper to extend him now than to wait until free agency.

that's a solid extension for you guys. Suns fan here. I would definitely not have given Perkins any more than that. 8.5 mil a year for a great defensive center and rebounder and intimidator is good value if he stays healthy.

You guys are a great defensive team with westbrook, thabo, serge, perkins, collison wow.

I see a finals appearance or two coming in the next few years.

Fallacy said it earlier, we are making out quite nicely in this deal, assuming Perkins remains healthy. Local sports radio here in OKC was talking earlier about it and they raised a very good point that we got a player more valuable to the needs of the team for less money than if we had re-signed Green. $8mil a year for a significant low-post defender compared to maybe $10mil a year for a guy who couldn't defend in his position and brought inconsistent offense.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Yhup! Only Gortat is being paid less! Thre was no way the Sun's would be willing to deal him as well.
