Jeff Green turned 5 years $40 million?

Post#1 » by theokie » Sat Mar 26, 2011 11:39 pm

The dentist i go to is the same guy as the Thunders team dentist.

Jeff Green came back into town a week or so ago to get stuff and had a dentist appointment.

Basically what he had heard from Green was that he was pissed that his agent talked him out of signing a 5 year $40 million dollar deal. A couple days after he turned it down, he was traded and was pissed that he got moved. He said that if he could go back in time that he would have taken that offer instead of testing the FA market this summer like his agent wanted.

First off if thats all true im not surprised that the Thunder offered that much to him but I'm more surprised that Green turned it down. I really dont think that he is worth much more than that.

Another interesting note was that my dentist said that Green wanted to try and come back to OKC in the offseason. This probably wont happen because the money offered to Green went to Perkins but still.

Pending the current salary situation stays the same what do you guys think Green is going to get offered on the open market? I dont think the Celts would offer him that much and is there any chance we could see Green back in OKC?

This timeline is impossible. Green is not eligible to sign an extension during the season, the deadline was back in August.

Also, I doubt Sam Presti offered that much to him.

Well he probably just mis heard him about the time part. It was before the deadline obviously. Or Jeff could have been just talking out of his ass but I assume the numbers he told him were true cause i really dont know why a dentist would lie about it.

But wait? Why would Sam offer him 40mil, that's alot of money Jeff won't turn down... Something is not making any sense.

Hasn't Green's agent already mentioned he thinks he's worth a giant contract? If he convinced him to turn down 40 mil he must think Jeff can get a lot more than that.

1) He think that the new CBA won't be drastically different. Even if salary cap goes down, he probably see an opportunity in the team with current cap space that will still have cap space with a lowered cap has some sort of interest in green.
2) Green not resigning with boston. i don't see why boston will match anything above 10m
3) He knows there's enough sucky GMs around.
4) He failed to see the marketing possibilities in Green in Green.

Oh man.. :D

Hope that ain't true. hahahaha That means we are screwed and we just hired Green for a few months of duty. If he turned down 9 mil a year that's a lot, I even thought Danny was going to offer him 9 mil a year for 3 years, maybe. Saying that he wants to go back to OKC is kinda dumb for a pro if true. Danny Ainge has ears everywhere and it wont do Green no good. :D

For Danny to give Green more then 10 mil a year, means he has to let go of Baby for sure and Danny has a manbonner for him, so I dunno.
Good assessment:

I strongly doubt it that this is true.

I do think the 5 year part is correct but the amount might be off by 1m/year at most. Afterall, falk believes that green can get a max contract from somewhere, so if they were far apart in discussion, it's probably in the ballpark of 7m-8m. Unless Presti doesn't value him as much as we had thought he did.

Jeff Green isn't a good fit on the Thunder, but I don't think 8 million is a ridiculous price for him. I still think he could be a very solid starting SF, and he is young and high character. Thunder are definitely better off with Perkins though.

First of all, 5 years, $40 million is $8 million per year, not $9. Secondly, I can see why he'd turn that down. That's not market value. Look at what Rudy Gay got. And Iggy. And Deng. All of them $70 million or more (much more in Rudy's case) Maybe the CBA will change things, but honestly, I have a hard time seeing him getting less than that, even with a new CBA. I bet he gets more.
