Thunder acquire Lazar Hayward

Via @KBergCBS, Oklahoma City has acquired small forward Lazar Hayward from the Wolves for Robert Vaden and two 2nd round picks.
No idea why.... another swingman who can't shoot?

Hard to be disappointed in a trad where you only gave up 2nds, but I think I am? Just don't see what this does for us... Now, admittedly, I don't know much about him

I seem to remember rumors that Presti liked Hayward before the 2010 draft. I haven't looked up shooting percentages, but if my memory is correct, shooting is the skill that got him drafted.
Based on history, Presti seems to use second round selections as much for the 66'ers as for the Thunder. Hayward is still eligible for d league designation.

In this case I would imagine that the conditions are whether Hayward is still on the Thunder Roster in 2013.

He shot a lot of jump shots (in college) but wasn't super great at them. He shot well in workouts for the T-Wolves...
I think you're right about the D-League thing.

Isn't conditional usually top 50/55(?) protected? i.e. linked to draft position?
If the team is kept the 2nd rounder will be in 50s anyway, something that we can buy down the road. At least this guy is an SF.

Hayward is out of Marquette and was a pretty good college player. He had a reputation there for being a gritty, tough player that got more out of effort than out of physical ability. You know, a Presti type of player.
I read that as defensive practise for KD.

Just as a clarification, to myself as much as anyone else. Hayward was the 30th selection of the first round in 2010 and not a second round pick.

Hayward is also signed through 12-13, his third year option was picked up by Minnesota in June.

He was in a few of my classes at Marquette. One of the few on the team who was a genuinely nice guy. Said hello to me all the time, etc.
Once, there as a cute girl working at a front desk on campus who he had an eye on. He went up to her, slapped at piece of paper with his number on it down, and said, "you already know who I am. Call me."

Love it just on the basis that we gave up nothing and got a true backup for KD. He was a great shooter in college but so far in the NBA hasn't shot well. He was on the timberwolves, so I don't take his stats from there too seriously. He should see much better shots playing for OKC than Minnesota

Solid trade. Vaden was going nowhere on this team and show me a 2nd round pick in the upper 50's that hits. That dosent happen too often.
Hayward was a first round pick and someone Sam liked last year. He was able to get him for penuts not too shabby. It looks like Presti has rounded out his 15 once he cuts ties with Nate Rob.
I would not be suprised to see Ivey out the door based on money reasons and the open spot that Presti likes to have in his back pocket. But, I think he stays because you dont want to rush Jackson on the floor handling the ball if something happens to Russ or Maynor, if he is not ready.

Wolves fan here.
Hayward is a 9th/10th man at best.
He looked out of his depth here in Minnesota in his little time on the court. Never saw this good shooting as he generally played garbage time.
The best thing about him we saw was intensity and willingness to throw his body around.
I think the pick(s) work like this.
2012 2nd round pick to T-Wolves. If pick is 46 or higher than OKC also owe 2013 second round pick.
Judging by your roster I assume we will be seeing both picks come our way.

Pretty sure it works otherwise, doesnt make sense from both team point of view if it works that way.
If 46 or higher = 2012 pick alone (higher value)
if lower than 46 = 2012 + 2013 pick ( 2 smaller value)

Thats what I meant, just worded it wrong.
I meant if the pick falls 46-60 we get another pick the following year.

Again... I don't know much about this guy, but it kind of concerns me that the reasons most have seemed to like the dail are:
1) Position he plays
2) Age
3) Low asking price
I just haven't really heard anything related to him (other than a few unenthusiastic TWolves fans), so it's hard to be excited over giving up even 2 2nds for someone of low value.

One more reason to like Hayward in my mind. He's not a washed up James Posey type who costs more and does less. I like the fact that Presti doesn't follow the pack when filling out the end of the roster.

We had our whole rotation coming back from last season with perhaps hoping that Aldrich can fight Nazr for some of the backup C minutes. Even when KD was rested we went smallball and was quite effective with it. With the few minutes at backup SF, the only way we were going to pay the guy more than 3m would if he fits other positional need at SG (we're already crowded at the backcourt) or he can provide offence at the PF slot (Not sure why we didnt go this route).
I guess this is an end of the roster choice that really shouldn't matter much in the overall scheme unless he's going to payoff big time.
