Review of the OKC-Philly game

Post#1 » by BIG EDDIE » Thu Mar 1, 2012 5:50 pm

This game was an interesting one. Luckily we got the W, but you could clearly see the big differences between the two teams.
OKC's biggest weaknesses are where Philly is really good.

1. Turnovers vs Steals:
Philly averages NBA low 10.3 TO, while OKC a league high 16.5

While Philly takes good care of the ball themselves, they play really tough defense and force turnovers for the opposing teams.
Philly has 8.8 stls and OKC has 7.8 per game.

2. Defense:
Philly allows an NBA low 87.1 pts / game and its not because slow tempo. They also allow NBA low 41.5% FG for the other teams in average.
OKC is not much worse with 42.3% but allow still 96.0 pts per game.

3. Team play:
Philly shares the ball. With 21.8 ast versus OKC's 18.1 they have a clear advantage. And thats on about the same amount of FGs made.

To sum it up, Philly plays as a team on both ends. Plays tough defense and play smart on offense. They share the ball well and still take care of it, without turning it over.
Sure, OKC is clearly the better team, but if the Thunder players and coaching staff could learn a few things from this Philly team, they would be outright unbeatable.
Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we are here we might as well dance!

Thank God Philly don't have a half-decent closer or it would have been lights out.
