Interesting stats - MUST READ for OKC fans

Post#1 » by BIG EDDIE » Wed May 23, 2012 11:03 am

I checked the last 26 years' NBA playoff Conference Finals matchups and came up with the following:

-Out of the 52 matchups, 18 times has the team with the worse winning% advanced to the Finals.
That equals 30.8%, where the team WITHOUT Home Court Advantage has won!

Of course many of those matchups were lopsided, so I checked those where the two teams had a separation in winning% during the season less than 4%:
-16 matchups and the team with the worse record had won 8 times...50%!!!

In fact, the last 11 years -not counting winning percentages- , out of the 22 matchups, 12 times (54.5%) has the team WITHOUT home-court-advantage WON and advanced to the NBA Finals!

So the last 11 years, HCA in the Conference Finals was NO difference-maker, and in the last 26 years it has only been a factor, when one of the Teams was clearly better than the other.

After looking at these stats, I must tell you I feel much better about our chances against the Spurs :D
Life may not be the party we hoped for but while we are here we might as well dance!

Thunder just have to win the first game! When they go out and play fast pace basketball without turning the ball over (like in the series against the lakers) then we have all the chances to advance to the finals.

For me, the WCF this year are the finals. The Team that wins that series will be NBA Champion.

But nice stats, allthough they don't have to mean anything. But nice research!
