We're a small community, but a draft thread would be appropriate, no?

In this years draft we'll be picking 28th in the 1st, and watching during the second. Fortunately, there's value to be had late due to the depth of this years class. Based on our roster construction, what we have, and what we have expiring; I think we should be aiming for a stretch/tweener to come off the bench for Durant.

Who do I have in mind? Quincy Miller.

6'9-6'10, 200lbs. Reportedly has a 7'3-7'4 wing span. He tore his ACL as a high school senior, and largely underachieved at Baylor. Mediocre jump shooter and rebounder, and a shaky handle, but he has tons of untapped potential and could eventually develop into a solid role/bench player ala Tiago Splitter. The question is; how far will he fall? Some mocks have him going from anywhere from 17th to Dallas, to 27th to Miami. He's a long shot, but If he continues to disappoint, or has a poor showing at the combine I could definitely see it happen. Adds length, and bench strength, something that never hurts.

And then there's this kid 2guard from France, Evan Fournier, that I believe management may go after. 6'6, 190lbs. I really don't know much about him though.

I'd be on board for Fournier. Stash him in Europe for a year, save some dough.

Not really interested in Miller. If Fab Melo is there I'd consider him. I like Royce White a whole lot but I suspect his stock will go up and he'll be well out of our range.

One guy who hasn't gotten a lot of pub is Andrew Nicholson. I like his skill set, he's a smart kid too. Could see him our rotation if he ever panned out.

At this point without immediate needs I think we're basically in "Draft people, stash them overseas, hope they pan out" mode.

Personally.

draft a PF, either a PF/C or a SF/PF cause the guy need to be versatile if he's to have any hope of entering the court. Failing that, draft and stash is preferred. maybe buy a second rounder to get a PF/C a stretch PF/C ala John Leuer.

Think they'd consider just selling the pick? I know it's not a very fun option, but with minds focused on keeping our biggest players, no huge needs, and nobody great available I wouldn't hate it...

i rather draft one of the euros and stash the pick away. selling picks are big no no considering presti come from the spurs school of thought.

I would be worried if we sell it away, the only thing i can see us doing is either trading down for an early 2nd + future considerations or trading it away for a future pick.


edit: worried cause teams that sell picks are definitely not going to go into luxury tax. On one hand draft picks are cheap rookies but you won't know if they'll pan out, you can get similar production from veteran minimum. <-- Suns and Hawks did sell their picks before if i remember correctly.

I agree if Fab Melo falls take him otherwise a Euro stash might be the way to go

Anyone have thoughts on John Jenkins? Is 1st round too high for him?

How many European prospects are available for the draft and stash concept?

What about a draft and stash in Tulsa?

Jae Crowder seems like a natural fit to me. He comes from one of Presti's favorite college programs. He's got the work ethic, fits into the culture and is a player who doesn't need the ball or plays run for him to make a difference. He's got a high basketball IQ. Knows how to find space on the floor, can see the play developing on both offense and defense. Is an underrated jump shooter and will hit his free throws, rebounds, a good passer, good at reading the passing lanes, makes hustle plays.

Measured out an inch shorter than listed, but is a solid 242 pounds. Meaning he has the strength to guard bigger players. Is not a freak athlete, but certainly and NBA athlete.

Off wikipedia, seems less than 20. With most projected in 2nd round or undrafted.

Whatever i read is only Fournier or Satoransky being potential late first pick and Fournier is always justified as a draft and stash for OKC in most mock. (both are SG with maybe a chance to play SF)

He'll probably only draft and stash 2nd rounder. so if we're going do that for Tulsa it's probably he's going to drop into 2nd round for some picks instead.

Presti has stashed first round picks in Tulsa before, with D.J. White, Byron Mullens and Cole Aldrich being the examples. 2011-12 was the first year Presti didn't really use Tulsa and perhaps that can be explained by the in season injuries to Maynor and Sefolosha.

that could work but i think the team has different needs now. Will probably only use 2nd rounder to stash like Latavious williams, ryan reid and tibor pleiss.

Though like you mentioned we probably have a 10 man rotation already so stashing is always an option. First rounder being send down i think is more due to them getting games experience.

draft is like within 3 weeks time too.

start from 13:30 for 8-10 mins. seems his role there is mainly to set picks and stretch the floor.
No 21 in white, easily the tallest guy in white.

Might be a good idea. I wonder if they could simply trade for some exemption money to help sign Harden and Ibaka.

They have almost no needs as far as positioning goes and with the run they made this year W/a chance at a title they will have quite a few Min. Vet. contracts and MLE guys to pick from in free agency.
