We have to amnesty Perkins

Anyone who knows Basketball also knows that Perkins is a defensive liability, I don't know how he gets his reputation as a good post defender, he is only good against Howard but players with good footwork burn him with ease he is also slow on rotations. He has the worst hands of any player in the league, he cant even catch rebounds which bounce straight to him or entry passes towards an open basket. He has no upside at age 28 and is currently eating up a quality portion of our salary cap.

Even if we currently do not have a plan in my mind on who to replace with, it doesnt matter, he needs to go or I will lose my sanity. If I see this lard running around in a jersey next year I dont know if I can take anymore.

What would you do with the 9 million saved? FIY we will still be over the cap? re-sign Kevin Martin?

Name your starting 5 next year.

The exact same starting 5 next year without Perkins would be much better. Addition by subtraction, give Collison and Perry Jones some more burn, find a vet PF/C for the MLE (Landry, Kaman, Brand, Brandon Wright, David West, Dalembert)

Might even be able to pick up Dejaun Blair or Tiago Splitter from San Antonio. Any of these would be an upgrade over Perkins, and could be had in their price range.

So glad people, even the media, are stating to realize that he is not only worthless, he is a detrimant to the team. Its been talked about plenty how bad he is offensively (his inability to even a catch a ball almost cost them game 1 on that late game inbounds play), but the whole notion that he is a good defender and sets great screens is a joke. He gets beat to the rim all the time, can't guard anyone who can face up, and is way too slow on his rotations. He can't guard the pick and roll, and sets several illegal screens per game. This year they dont have an alternative as it appears collison is on the decline a little (sad to say). I personally would rather have thabeet out there as he can catch and finish a dunk and wont take shots like perkins, who for some reason is given the green light to shoot 17 footers if he is open. He is a borderline backup center at this point

Ibaka is paid like someone that can play at the 5 for stretches.

This is true. There are a lot of things Ibaka should improve upon commiserate with his contract extension.

I view the option to amnesty Perkins as a last resort.

I would have used the extra 9 million to resign Harden, personally.

Who would make all the angry faces if you get rid of Perkins?

frankly since we dont have cap space and if we aren't in luxury tax space, i don't really see a reason to amnesty him other than Brooks play him for far too long.

That was the main point about not committing long term to Ibaka until we locked up Harden: You have always to choose the best player available to commit first, even if you are going to trade him right after you signed him. Ibaka is grossly overpaid, because until now, he doesn't have an independent offensive game, and needs to be set up on the offense, while is still a very limited defensive player. Can't guard heavier players in the post and can't guard quicker players on the perimeter.

Compared to the a lot of other bigs, he's not over paid. Especially when you consider the fact that his extension doesn't start til next season. He's improved every year so there is no reason to think he won't improve this summer. Even if he can't create his shot, he still can finish shots created for him whether its a jumper or dunk. He's done a great job with Randolph who is one of the "heavier" players in the league. How many bigs can guard players on the perimeter?

Presti was going to be damned if he traded either Harden or Ibaka anyway.
While Ibaka hasn't yet earned his extension, he's still young and can grow more especially on the offensive end. if he could do all those things you mentioned on offence with what he already gives (plus improved on on defence) he'll probably be a max player. I do believe you're underrating his defensive contribution.

If I may? I think Presti jumped the gun. Harden and Ibaka's extension would have gone into effect next year and amnestying Perkins after 2014 would be the key. Having Harden would mean a possible championship and he or westbrook would be trade bait if it did not work out. Durrant, Westbrook and Harden made this team unique! No way you break that up!

The biggest mistake you guys did all year was not including perkins in the Harden trade. Houston was willing to do anything to get Harden. You guys might have even got Asik back in return in that trade if both parties were willing to wait until mid December.

He may need to get drug tested.

I hate to pour salt in it, but I did say Sanders from MKE for Lamb and your 1st. Problem solved -- helps your cap and gets you a premier defender who doesn't need the ball on the other end. Wish we had a quality GM like yours because I doubt ours is smart enough to see the value in this.
