2014 Draft Discussion

Post#1 » by DontH8TheBrody » Fri Mar 28, 2014 7:32 am

This is a loaded draft class with tons of talent and we potentially have two picks. I would like to see us package one or both to potentially move up.

Who would you guys like to see us draft this year? What do you think we need most?

I really like Rodney Hood out of Duke. Great 3 ball shooter, can slash and play solid D. I think we would need to be in the 8-13 range to snag him though.
    PG: Westbrook/Jackson/Smith
    SG: Roberson/Morrow/Lamb
    SF: Durant/Jones/Lamb
    PF: Ibaka/Collison/McGary
    C: Adams/Perkins

Not necessarily a move up to get him, but Adreian Payne is a player I wouldn't mind seeing in a Thunder uniform. A senior, quality guy on and off court, has shown improvement all around in his game throughout his college career. I would love to get Payne 2 years of Collison tutelage and let him play with the second unit.

Sorry to #hateonthebrodie but I don't see why anyone would draft Hood in the lottery, he's a poor rebounder, on a poor rebounding team, and a poor defensive player in college, while being 21 years old right through the season, not a special athlete either... If he was playing for almost any other school he'd be begging for a spot in the 2nd round

Another player a lil further up in the draft...but probably not too far out of range for a trade is Kyle Anderson.

No worries! Thats what this thread is all about, I haven't followed college basketball that much until the madness this year. I wanted to hear from some others with a bit more knowledge on some potential guys!

What positions do you think we should be targeting and do you still see Lamb as our SG of the future?

I would think a combo guard would be top priority, followed by PF, at least a solid 2 guard, but I'd like a guy capable of playing point if needed. Personally, I like Zach Lavine, but have seen Andrew Harrison possibly being around in the late 1st. As well, I'd honestly take a shot at PJ Hairston, even w/ the trouble at UNC he was lighting up the D League, and if he did well in interviews maybe the trouble made him realize what he gave up. As for the PF, I'd like Payne as well.

I agree 2 guard is the priority (emphasis on ball handling as well) but think this will be had outside of the draft. With a 5.5 mill MLE and a 6.5 mill TPE ready and waiting a nice SG or combo guard could be had with portions or full amounts of either.

True, I wonder if they look to add a better C though first (possibly a free agent), but I don't know what kind of offers would be out there for guards.

There's not really any good combo guards in this draft, Andrew Harrison has been very disappointing... Maybe LaVine falls and Presti believes in his athleticism/tools enough to take him (I'd have a tough time making that gamble, he's very overhyped imo)... If we were to take a guard, I'd hope it's Elfrid Payton, big point guard that needs to work out his jumper, but he was super impressive this year.

I like Lavines natural talent and his potential but like you said I think he's overhyped at the moment. What do you think about Selden Jr from Kansas. Is there anybody in this draft you like enough to move a possible package of Jackson and one of our picks?

Selden's staying at Kansas for his sophomore season, as he should, despite having excellent size/tools he was awful this year (dissapointed me, I thought he could have had a similar impact to Gary Harris at MSU.) It wouldn't depend on how far up it got us, but I can't say with any certainty that there is a point guard in this draft that will be better than Reggie next season (Ennis should be easily moving forward, and I'd say the same for Elfrid Payton if not for the 20% shooting on jumpers)

I'd move up for Tyler Ennis quite easily.

Is the consensus Ennis will be a better pro then Reggie eventually? Is Ennis the type of combo guard we should be targeting? Good canadian kid like myself so I already like him!

Don't know if he'll be better than Jackson. He's very different from him. He is a pass first PG, pick and roll oriented, with high basketball IQ, great at drawing fouls out of his penetrations, have a high assist per turnover ratio for the NCAA, very low turnover guy, defines himself as a floor general.

I agree a combo guard would be nice, but a pass first PG running the show (a rich man's Eric Maynor, maybe), could be a fit too. Someone to play the PnR with Collison and Pleiss, and make penetrations and kick outs to Durant, Lamb and Jones looks good to me.

The main question about Jackson is that: can the Thunder afford him long term? I don't think so. Next season is his last year in contract, someone out there is probably willing to overpay him heavily and I don't think our FO will match, because we are not willing to go deep in the tax. I think the Thunder trade Jackson and draft a guard, or do that Shumpert deal, but I don't like Shumpert that much, Thunder would be better with a capable ball handler.

He is out of our range, but anybody see a lot of Marcus Smart? How do you think he will project?

Marcus Smart will go top 10, most likely top 7. Thunder would have to overpay a lot to move up there. There's only thing I don't like about Smart, that is his turnover rate that is obscenely high.

Return to Oklahoma City Thunder
