overjoyed, Went to bed with Lopez/Cole and woke up with Kanter/DJ Augustin. Cost us a first though.

As much as I want to I can't go to a 10. If Presti had pulled off Lawson and Kanter I would have been at a 10. As it stands I'm at an 8. A VERY good haul, but it left me enough to nit pick it down to an 8. We had to give up Pleiss who I'm very high on. Augustin is basically a replacement of Reggie and not an upgrade. Waiters is still taking up cap space that has team still in the luxury tax and if they can't move him in the off-season he could hurt their ability to use the MLE and make it more difficult to match Kanter's RFA offer sheet.
Having Ibaka, Adams, Kanter, McGary and Collison as the big men for the next few years should be great. Morrow should get better looks now that OKC has a big man that is going to make teams pay attention to him when he has the ball in Kanter. Singler is going to help with the 3 point shooting. KD and Russ should now feel good about having others guys on the court that can score. Waiters should end up riding the bench with Morrow and Singler as the wings off the bench. With Roberson playing better the last 6 weeks or so this team should be in good shape down the stretch and into the playoffs.

the way numbers are put, 7
not sure about the fit
not sure what it means for McMitch, but can't be good
not sure Kanter will be happy from the bench in more limited minutes, which is the likely result
worried about defense when kanter is on the floor
sad to see Perk go (really)
kanter's extension
but
got rid of the distraction in RJ
got a capable backup PG
no idea what to do with singler and novak, but both can shoot
got under LT for this year

Well I woulda flipped if it were Lopez/Cole.
Augustin/Singler/Novak/Kanter....I like. Especially if they keep Kanter, they have 2 young Cs, Ibaka, Russ, KD.

Unless I'm missing something they were already in the tax and added salary.
Kanter, Singler, Novak and Augustin total $13.554M
Perkins, Garrett and Reggie total $12.297
I'd love to be wrong, but I'm pretty sure they just got deeper in the tax.

I am surprised that Novak was brought in. If we would have left him alone we would be under the cap.

Love the moves today. Sucks to see Jackson go, but excited to see what kanter singler and Novak can contribute as I haven't seen a ton of them. Augustin is a great pickup definitely a serviceable backup pg. Most of all, by getting rid of Perkins, it ruins brooks ability to kill our team with rotations. Aside from waiters, there is now nobody for him to play irrational amounts of minutes and hold back the team (perk, fisher, caron, Thabo come to mind). Robertson could be another one but he doesn't play a ton even though he starts. This team is now extremely talented, deep, can shoot, run, and throw athletic versatile combinations of bigs at teams all game long.

She's a California dime.

The 'not being Lopez' part adds a solid 2 points to it though. Stand alone trade I think is very good, but with that added I'm going 10.

I voted 10. It woulda been a 1 or 2 if this was Lopez and Cole.

How much can the team pay Kanter in the off-season. Would they go over 10M? cause he wants a lot and to start.
This is basically two trades. Part with Utah is good, but Pistons got RJ for DJ and Singler. Which is not the best deal.
It was reported the team got under lt. Guess not when everything fell together.
And the big question is will RJ turn into Harden?

We offered Reggie 12, so it's fairly safe to assume we'd offer that to Kanter. The Pistons part of the trade was perfect for us, DJ is a similar caliber player and fits WAY better. RJ as Harden is like Geralf Green as Jordan.

Looks good on paper, so hopefully that will carry over onto the court.

Since they wanted Brook Lopez to pick up his $16.8M player option and they traded Pleiss in the deal I'm going to assume they will match whatever offer sheet Kanter signs which I expect to be in the 12-14M/yr range. Augustin is as good as Reggie and Singler was a free throw in so I'm not sure how you think that isn't a great deal. RJ will continue to be an inefficient selfish player who will go jack up 20 shots a night while shooting 40% in Detroit and be their new Josh Smith. Detroit will probably get sick of Reggie and let him leave this off-season as a FA. The only thing Harden and Reggie have in common is that they both wanted to be the man on inferior teams instead of trying to collect rings on a championship caliber team.

So how many would sign on Reggie for DJ and Singler one week ago?
The Utah part wasok, distant first, I guess probably late and protected.
Will Kanter work out? It's anyone's guess, we'll see in a week or two.
But Kanter next yearat 14M, or more? I don't understand a move like that

I would have taken Augustin and Singler for Reggie a week ago, a month ago or during training camp. I really can't believe Detroit's front office thought that was upgrade. Augustin is 27 so it's not like he is old and declining. Reggie is 24 so he's not a young player that is still taking huge jumps in development. There is an 8 month age difference between Harden and Reggie! Reggie's not going to suddenly become a great player at his age. He is who he is.
The Utah part doesn't happen without the Detroit part so you really can't say half the trade was great and half was horrible because it was all one trade and it was a great trade. You don't understand why having Kanter who can post up, run the P&R, rebounds well, is 30th in the NBA with a 49.1 FG% is worth the $12-14M/yr he's probably going to get? The only knock on Kanter is that his defense isn't ideal, but at 22 and already a top offensive center his defense can come along. Kanter can play both big positions and is a good stretch 4 when needed, he is a 32% 3pt shooter, which doesn't mean you want him shooting them at a high volume, but it shows that he has the range. Kanter is a 37% shooter on mid-range jumpers which means his defender can't ignore him to clog the lane. When OKC play Memphis Gasol and Randolph suddenly have to play defense instead of getting a rest on one end of the floor when Perkins was in there.
Kanter is almost as good at shooting jumpers as Russ. Think about that. A big man that can shoot 3s better than Russ. A big man that is only slightly worse on mid-range and deep 2s than Russ. A big man that can create offense in the post. A big man that rebounds. Kanter is not a rim protector, but since he'll generally be playing with either Ibaka or Adams there should always be at least one rim protector on the floor. Kanter is only 22! He is the same age as Lamb and McGary and younger than Waiters, Roberson and Reggie!

I don't really care that the Pistons sucked value from Utah. The first is lotto protected so if KD leaves it will be two seconds. And paying Kanter 12-14 million right before the cap goes up is perfect, the next year that's probably 16 million.
