I feel like this may be obvious to most of us but looking at the Piston's board they seem to think that Jackson will be an upgrade on Augustin, sadly I don't think they have watched much of his game.

Pretty much Augustin is proven at this point to be that far superior shooter, finisher, passer and free throw shooter then Jackson and he won't come with the poor attitude and chemistry problems. Can't wait to see what he can bring to this team because I was really getting sick of Jackson's poor shot selection and next to no effort on defense.

Jackson won't come with an attitude or chemistry problem either. I think the biggest differences between the two are that Augustin KNOWS he is a nice backup pg by this point in his career, and DJ can make open 3's. Those are basically the perfect things to replace RJ. I don't think Detroit is going to be severely disappointed since they didn't give up much, but I'd be surprised to see him still there in 3 years.

Hey Pistons fan (who loves Durant & Westbrook) here. Augustin is a steady hand. He runs the offense well and excels in P & R situations. He doesn't have tremendous vision, but he is heady and will pick up the offense really quickly. He can be deadly as a spot up shooter playing off the ball.

Areas of concern: He struggles on defense, but that can be minimized with Ibaka & Adams. He loves to dribble and over dribble the ball, but that's because he's looking to survey the court for the right play. I liked the guy. He works well in a structured offense or system which is why he did well under Larry Brown, Thibs, and SVG while struggling in other stops.

Dj is a pretty bad at backup pg,its when he gets a chance to start that he plays at a better level.Hes the type of player that needs to get in a rhythm to get going and needs the minutes to do so.He was pretty much a non factor until jennings went down.

He's actually pretty average as a backup. 8 and 3 with a 53.5 ts%, 10 and 4 if he gets 20-29 minutes per. Hits 38% from three.

Hey that's really encouraging. Even if he can't do all of that here just 80% of it would probably be adequate. What I'm most looking forward to (I hope) is just competent backup PG play without all the diva attitude. I'm pretty much over these backups who think/know they are stars.

Well it's only been one game but I've already decided that Augustin is the better player, such a more smarter well rounded player

He's definitely better than the Reggie we gave up. Who knows what the Reggie Det gets will look like?

Agreed, I really grew to dislike the Reggie of this season. He has been given the keys to Detroit now and he's really going to push himself to proove to the world that he's a good player. Will he ever end up being an all-star? I'm not so sure, but I think he will be a solid player for Detroit (who gave up nothing for him).

i have no idea how okc got augustin,,,or why he gets bounced around the league so much. love singler's 3s too. now okc has 5 or 6 guys who can dependably turn in 10 >15 points if need be, AND they got novak too...he and singler can camp out in the corners and hit 3s all day while everybody worries about westy kd, and ibaka. and btw, they can pull ibaka in for the midrange again LOL.

okc is fully loaded

I think Reggie will do well in Detroit, as long as he goes to see a psychiatrist.

Those head problems gonna follow him around, he will do well for a while, but they will crop back up.

Players like DJ Augustin historically did good or overachieved for the Thunder.

Role player mentality, initiate the second unit offense, solid three point shooting and has a feel for the pick and roll. That's pretty much the definition of Eric Maynor and Derek Fisher. Eric Maynor was a major overachiever for the Thunder while Fisher's rotting corpse did something close to good and that's excellent for a projection for what a guy like Augustin will fare in his Thunder stint. Except he is much more talented than both guys.

He'll most definitely share the ball handling duties with Waiters, but this time, Waiters will have Mitch McGary to chat with him in the Pick and Roll, and Augustin/Singler/Morrow/Novak around to stretch the floor for him, possibly PJIII and Lamb. I don't expect not only DJ Augustin to do good here, but expect Waiters to look much better now with a more friendly fit around him.

Thunder's offensive side of our second unit is most definitely better than it was before the trade.

I can see a Augustin / Waiters / Morrow / Singler / McGary second unit building leads for the Thunder. Very similar to what we had here when Maynor/Harden/Collison were running pick and rolls and building leads for the Thunder.

When I read Royue Youngs story bout Reggie not playing in our home opener this year, because he was mad because he did not get traded, it made me angry and still does. That game was vrs Denver, and Thunder had 8 active players. They really needed that guy on the court, here's the game flow

http://www.popcornmachine.net/gf?date=20141101&game=DENOKC

And Royce describes the media asking him if he was gonna play, and he says no, and goes and dunks the ball with a bad ankle ............. but ya know , the media could've torched his arse right then. But they did not report that. I wish I'd known about it , when it happened. Media protected the team cause the team did not have Russ or KD and really needed Reggie. If the fans had known that then, it would've gotten brutal in the arena.

Then Reggie goes crying to Wojo, that he was getting blamed for all the problems ........... that's off the fricken wall. That's a guy with mental problems.

I'm now thinking back over the season to this point, and some things I saw on the court, are becoming more clear.

This guy says its a coaching difference, says Reggie will put up big numbers in Detroit and DJ's success there ( along with Jennings ) was all due to SVG.

http://bballbreakdown.com/2015/02/19/re ... t-pistons/

The best attribute a coach can have is the ability to put players in a position to succeed. That’s what’s made guys like Rick Carlisle et al so successful. In Oklahoma City, Jackson was asked too frequently to do what he cannot do. Nearly 17% of his field goal attempts this season have come in catch-and-shoot form, per NBA.com, and he boasts an ugly 31.3% eFG on those opportunities. By comparison, just 13.7% of Jennings’s attempts following Smith’s release were catch-and-shoot. The new Piston simply wasn’t effective playing next to Westbrook, but he absolutely should be coming off of Drummond and Monroe screens and running into space surrounded by guys like Jodie Meeks, Tolliver, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. [Losing Singler certainly hurts Detroit’s shooting, but you have to give to get in this league.

What else can Jackson do well? Drive the ball effectively. His 53.0% field goal percentage on drives ranks sixth among the top-50 in drives per game, per SportVU, behind only mega-studs like Stephen Curry and LeBron James. Jackson got to the rim just 6.5 times per game with the Thunder due to his limited minutes, and because he played in such a crowded system with a massive frontcourt incapable of spacing the floor the way Detroit can. Still, Jackson was able to create 7.7 team points per game in those opportunities, or 1.184 points per drive, which ranks 15th among the top-50 in drives per game. Give him some more chances and extra breathing room, and it’s likely that he can produce at a similar or even higher clip.
]

I guess we will see, but I don't doubt Reggie will do well ( with caveat as to mental state ) , but I don't think Reggies' problems with Thunder was because of Brooks . Thunder did not have the 3P shooting to space the floor, but I don't get this massive frontcourt. That was why Serge was playing from the perimeter, to make room under the basket.

In this weeks Bills Simmons podcast, him and Gambler Bob or Harabalous, or whatever his name is, were calling Brooks stupid for not staggering KD and Russ's stents, so one of the two was on the court at all times.

Simmons could not think of any reason why Brooks would have KD and Russ out of the game, at the sa .e time.

IDK what to think, that critique sounds reasonable, but I gotta think Brooks has his reasons.

This has me fuming w/ him. Wish the Thunder played Detroit again this year.

I just think that history says that players with Augustin skill set are fitting and easy to adapt here for the Thunder. He might even fail to deliver, but that would be the first time a player like him fails here.

Reggie Jackson is a talented player, from both a physical and defensive standpoint, but his skill set offensively is very narrow. Limited as a passer and pick and roll player and a poor jumpshooter. He gets away with that because he is very strong for his size and a great wingspan. He might do a better job if he develops chemistry with a big that demands defensive attention and open the lanes up for him - but he didn't do that with Collison, who did a great job with Harden.

Reggie Jackson is imo inconsistent and overrated - but talented.
