Is Ollie even a good coach?
Is he a defensive coach? Offensive?
I don't know anything about him.

I wanna say in Presti we trust but this all seems wawy too sudden for me and reeks of a panic move.

Meh, Scottie will be back. Ollie isn't a better coach.

you two are all in for status quo mode

I'm leaning towards Brooks staying too

I saw a piece on DT, how'd Brooks fit on Nuggets. Interesting idea if Thunder go with Ollie. Doubt Scotty stays without work for long. I actually think he was really solid this year.

Scotty gets a lot of heat but I like him as our coach. I hope we don't make a change because I really don't think a move is necessary at this point. This season was a disaster for a multitude of reasons but placing the blame on Scott when so many other things went wrong doesn't seem fair. I feel like Brooks is a players coach that they all seem to like. Replacing a well-liked coach with your biggest stars being soon-to-be free agents seems risky and could easily backfire for OKC.
Kevin Ollie makes a lot of sense though as a candidate if they were to make a move. The players have praised him in the past and would certainly endorse him as their new coach. I feel like you need a guy that already has built some level of rapport and respect from the players.
“Kevin Ollie, he was a game-changer for us,” Durant told ESPN’s Bill Simmons on the B.S. Report during All-Star weekend. Ollie only spent 25 games with the Thunder (after a short run some years earlier with the Sonics), playing a total of 263 minutes and scoring 44 points. Whatever it was, Ollie made an impression on Durant and the rest of the team. “He changed the whole culture, I think. He might not say it, but I think he changed the whole culture in Oklahoma City.”
Simmons asked Durant within the context of veteran leadership, and what point guard Derek Fisher has added to the Thunder. The Thunder were 23-59 in the season prior to Ollie’s arrival, then jumped to 50-32 the following season, the team’s second in Oklahoma City after moving from Seattle.
“[Ollie’s] mindset, his professionalism, every single day. And we all watched that, we all wanted to be like that, and it rubbed off on Russell [Westbrook], myself, Jeff Green, James Harden. And you know, everybody that comes through now, there’s a standard you’ve got to live up to as a Thunder player. And that started with Kevin Ollie.”

Ollie would literally be a worse version of Brooks. He's a motivator and that's about it, someone on reddit who watched some UConn compared him to Monty Williams. I don't see a way they do this.

Yeah, I'm with you. I don't want to get rid of Scott. It doesn't make sense to me either. And I honestly don't know enough about Ollie's coaching ability to really comment on that. I just linked the article to show there was some level of respect and admiration already established between the players and Ollie. I'm not sure what other candidates are even out there. Regardless, I'd rather have Scott as our coach.
If the team is back at full strength next year, Scott will be praised as a great coach again. Even by doing the exact same things he did this year. It's just the way it is. The team is built to win and they will win if they are healthy. This season had nothing to do with ineptitude from the coaching staff and everything to do with the slew of injuries they had to deal with.
If he's replaced, his replacement will be lauded as the next great coach -- even if he's just a coaching clone of Scotty. I think it'd be a similar situation to Kerr with Golden State. Kerr's a great coach but he couldn't have been placed in a better situation as a coach in his first year. Sometimes the players make you look good as a coach.

Yeah i read that too, huge red flag. Especially with them missing the tournament as well.
How about Alvin Gentry?

I would love Gentry as an offensive assistant for Brooks.

The only reasons I can think Ollie would get it over a guy like Gentry is just that Presti already knows him and KD likes him.

I wouldn't mind MD as our offensive assistant coach.

I'd be great w/ an offensive assistant. MDA or Gentry. Though Gentry won't leave GSW.

This is a power play by Brooks agent to get a contact extension. He's using the endorsement of Kevin, Russ and Serge as leverage.
And I think Brooks is ready to force his way out to a place like Orlando or Denver to get a long term deal.
Brooks doesn't want to be a lame duck with the Thunder. He either wants an extension or he wants to move on.
People have called me crazy, but I think D'antoni would do a good job as long as he hires a top flight defensive assistant to run the defense. I think D'antoni would do wonders for the Thunder offense and make them scarier than they already are.
I think Mike Malone would also do a good job.
And of course Thibs.
They are all better choices than a college guy like Ollie or Donovan.
The only acceptable college guy would be coach K.

You guys are crazy, Gentry will be a HC after this season, no way he'll be an assistant anywhere. Draymond Green and Kerr (among others) mentioned that during the RS.

Certainly possible, but I don't know if a team does it after one season, he's been a HC before.

Has anybody listened to the Thunder Buddies this week? They all think we'll know by Friday if Brooks is still the Thunder's coach.

You are right, but Sacramento for instance already tried to get him and he declined. I am sure that he will have better options available to him. Only time will tell and hey, if he stays an assistant you sure wont hear me complain.

I'd be thrilled w/ him right now.
