Dakari Johnson Rookie of the Year?

http://www.nba.com/2015/news/features/scott_howard_cooper/07/13/rookie-ladder-after-day-3-in-las-vegas/index.html?ls=nbahpsplit1Dakari has continued to remain on this ROY Ladder above Okafor and KAT. I don't know why. I saw a plodding big body that could be a back-up anchor down the line. He reminds me of Perk before the salty language. Certainly good value at 48, beyond that...

It will be hard as forth string without being in the 15, unless Mcgary or Adams are traded somehow.

Summer league hype imho. Nonames looking great and big names play less-than-spectular during summer games seems to be a trend, at least as I've seen the last couple years. ROY rankings will go back to normal as the regular season starts and progresses, and rotations/pt get tightened.

I've only watched two of the games, but Johnson looked good in them for the competition. I'll get around to watching the rest of the games at some point as they are on my DVR, but I just haven't had the time with some chaos messing with my scheduling the last month. I expect Johnson to spend two years in the D-League then take Collison's roster spot. Assuming they don't move Kanter for a SG next off-season. I also think Christon gets a 2nd year in the D-League before joining the roster next year as the 3rd PG.

Isn't that rookie ladder just a ranking of how well they've performed so far?

It is, just odd to throw his name in the mix because the chances of him getting signed now are almost 0. He may have to be traded to ever make a roster. Even if Okafor and KAT were underwhelming could you really objectively state that Dakari was better?

Just wondering, what happen with this guy?
I see he didn't make the NBA with the OKC this year, do they still have his rights?
He has been with the OKC D league team, can any team sign him up?

OKC has his draft rights, but he has only been in the D league this year. Been solid for the Blue from what I've heard.

D-League has pretty whacky stats... Hard to judge a defensive center there I would guess...
Does he factor into OKC plans?
Seems Center is locked down with Adams/Kanter
Plus Collison, Ibaka can play there, and McGary...
Could OKC renounce his rights? How long do they keep them?
I wouldn't mind the lakers snagging him

I guess they could, but there's no reason to, he doesn't take up cap space or a roster spot. I think Kanter gets traded at some point anyway. And he's still good insurance as a 3rd big to have in the pipeline, but I highly highly doubt they would just give up his rights out of nowhere.

I hope they renounce him
He would have started this year for the lakers.

Yeah there's like no shot. He was taken around where Clarkson was, and LA wouldn't have done that.

OKC uses its D-League team a lot. Not the first guy who's redshirted a season for us.
I'm guessing that if he has any potential at all he makes the end of the roster next year. But maybe not—they might keep him in D-League another year or he might sign overseas (Semaj Christon, one of our guards that's in the pipeline, spent one year on the Blue and is playing in Italy this year).
I believe so long as he's playing in a non-NBA league, the Thunder hold his rights indefinitely, and they expire one year after his last game for any other professional league. So unless they decide to waive their rights, no one else can touch him.
And no one really waives their rights to players. There are guys who will literally never come over who are still having their rights traded back and forth (Sofoklis Schortsanitis, anyone?)

Seems like him making the roster is a very long shot unless someone currently on the roster gets traded.

Lakers really should target him... BIG time...
Kanter is 23, 4 years on contract
Adams is 22, and is still on his rookie contract.
Johnson is 20 years old, but with 2 very good centers on the roster already, are they going to develop another one?
So, thunder fans...
With waiters contract up this off-season, would you guys be interested in taking Nick Young?
Young for Johnson?

Why would we take on your crappy contract? We're already paying Singler's dead weight another 20 million, no reason to add that idiot too.

I wouldn't trade Young for Singler.

Only reason I figured Young is that IF waiters go, young could slide into the same role seamlessly, and is at about the same money per year 5-mil. Lakers even have the cap room to take on an idiotic contract like Singler
Okay... so you guys wouldn't take Young. That's fine. No biggie.
I still want the lakers to target Johnson.
Not like lakers have a lot of players to trade for last years 48th pick, I thought even a minimal asset like young might suffice.
What are some options that the OKC Thunder would do?
Would they like to get out of paying future draft picks?
Or is Johnson a part of their long term plans? (with Adams and Kanter possibly leaving at some point?)

They'll pay Adams whatever he wants. If KD and Russ stay, Kanter gets traded cause there's not enough money.
I think they'll develop him, but I doubt he holds a lot of value, and honestly the Lakers have enough cap space to get someone in free agency who's better right now. There are plenty of very solid centers in free agency this year.

Young isn't an asset. Johnson has about no value, but Nick Young has got to take some sort of asset to trade himself.
