Domantas Sabonis’ stretch four potential
Sabonis was the hardest player for me personally to rank in the draft last year. Armed with high skill-level, a sturdy frame and an elite motor, there was clearly an avenue for him to succeed in the league. However, his alligator arms (6-foot-10 wingspan) and lack of vertical athleticism combined with a limited sample shooting 3s made for a dicey fit. He looked like a 5 on offense but a 4 on defense, which is code for situational big, and a minus defender to boot. The defense is still very much a question-mark, but the range shooting so early in his career has been a head-turner.
Sabonis has finished 31 possessions as a spot up shooter this year per Synergy Sports, good for about 35 percent of his total offense. His efficiency isn’t outstanding at only 0.87 points per possession, in the 36th percentile, but he is 15 of 33 on 3s and his mechanics look solid
If his shooting holds somewhat to form offensively, he’s a versatile contributor who can impact a game multiple ways. While his interior defense and rim protection will always be a minus, the arrow is pointing up for the Sabonis, who has exceeded expectations being cast into the fire for the Thunder so quickly.

They're young. "Competitive" in that the games are all close. Exciting is a stretch.

I meant competitive in that tthey compete and give their all nightly. Not competitive in the 'games against **** teams are close' way...

I think the effort is mostly there. A few guys are iffy but Russ, VO, Adams, Sabonis I don't question. And Abrines has shown potential.

Adams and Vic have both looked checked out of games at times in this still young season. Steven in particular has failed to rotate and contest some shots that I'd expect him to if he's being given a max contact and averaging 8/8 or whatever.
Russ, as always, is MAXIMUM EFFORT.
Sabonis is tougher because I think he's giving effort all the time, he's just a rookie who still gets overpowered and out of position at times.
Vic being asked to do less than he's ever had to before. It's probably fair to blame it on getting used to his role but his refusal to attempt to create any offense for the first few weeks was maddening.bondom34 wrote:spearsy23 wrote:bondom34 wrote:I think the effort is mostly there. I'd disagree for sure on Vic. He's been doing things he's never had to and outside Robes has been really solid defensively on the perimeter. Adams just is having issues on offense to my eye.

Steven's offense has clearly not progressed, but I wouldn't say that's effort related, it's just him being bad at it. Defensively his fouls per 36 are way down, and it's partly playing smarter and partly that he's not trying to contest at the rim as much. And in the Philly and minny games there were multiple times embiid/towns shoot jumpers over him while he just stood a few feet away. I'm not saying he's been bad or anything, but his effort has been lacking at times.

When a team from the east goes there without 3 of their top players I wish OKC could beat them.
Hey Rob, we get it. Yet still your team signed Jeff Green and traded for a player to start over your youth movement. And your record reflects it. Troll elsewhere.
You know how you guys could let this go? By actually letting it go and not quoting me.
You showed up without anyone quoting you in the 1st place.
You can also let it go by not posting every time somebody quotes you just like you did when I asked about Dipo's role on your board.
