Should we trade Roberson before the deadline?

Post#1 » by getrichordie » Mon Jan 9, 2017 8:41 pm

If we are going to move him, we should do it now, right? And why not? Are we going to pay him $10+ mil/yr. to be a black-hole on offense? Because I believe that's what he will fetch. Esp. since we are about to extend Westbrook on a $200 million contract.

What say you?

If what Ben Golliver said is true, then hell yes. Apparently he said he'd expect him to a deal close to Dipo on the latest DTD.
"I don't know of any player that, when the shot goes up, he doesn't want it to go in," Donovan said

No way he gets a deal as close to Oladipo. No frickin' way. I don't believe that for a second. He is too inept on offense to get a deal like that. If he could hit a three to save his life you may be seeing 15mil/yr. but no way he gets that much.

Please no. I don't see him getting that much but the kid's holding together the defense with Adams.

And if we have to let him walk and not get anything back for him, that's a risk you believe we should take? I respect that. But I think it jeopardizes our flexibility as a team if we keep him and he's already hit his ceiling. Especially if we give him around 15mil/year. I personally don't think we should go over 8-9mil/yr. He's over-achieving on offense and I don't think he will get THAT much better on defense.

He doesn't have to get better on defense. Ride it out and see if he gets an offer, but right now he's a top 5 defender at his position and without him lineups struggle big time on defense. This team needs to hang its hat on something, and defense certainly helps.

I definitely respect that but Presti knows the landscape better than anyone. What if he decides that Roberson will pull a 15 mil/yr. contract? I think we have to trade him at that point if that's the probable scenario.

Rather trade Kanter first. And there is no way to know what offer he gets that early.

Is it even possible to trade Kanter? Who is one realistic possibility on a taker? I know at one time Portland had interest but their roster is so different now. They need a guy like Noel.

I think Sacramento would be willing. Kanter/Roberson for Gay/WCS.

Really? You wouldn't do that? Trading Kanter's 17.5 mil for Gay's 13.3 (on 2 years instead of Kanter's 3) and you get WCS who I think has a higher ceiling than Roberson defensively and offensively.

WCS has been getting minutes cut on a bad team, and Gay won't be 13.3 for much longer. Unless you're ponying up 20 or so a year for him, no thanks (and I don't want to touch that much money).

Does anyone know how much OKC offered him before talks went cold? I am not sure any team would be comfortable to pay him more than 10m a year, but then he is a pretty good defender. Still, he is also a big part of why our offense is so stagnant at times.

I dont think I would trade him. I always like no-nonsense hard workers like Roberson but maybe salary demands make him too expensive to keep. Only way to get anything reasonable for him would be a sing and trade I think , so maybe he its hard to find the a trade that makes sense for OKC?

I wouldn't trade him, but I also wouldn't overpay him this offseason. If some gm in theory was crazy enough to give him a 15 mill dollar deal, I would not match. I don't think there is no worry about him getting that much. The combination of him being restricted and such a poor shooter will keep things reasonable. Also everyone has taken pay cuts, I don't see why he wouldn't.

Andre Roberson isn't the type of player you talk about trading before 'losing him for nothing.'

And no, I wouldn't trade him. He doesn't have enough value to plug any of our main holes and you create another large one by trading him
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.
