Josh Huestis

At what point do we give this guy a chance at some minutes. In the limited amount of NBA games he has played, he has shown some flashes. Seems to be a good defender and he's a better shooter than Robes. Not saying he's going to be a star or anything but I think he can be a decent role player and a potential 2 way threat. Are we just going to stash this guy forever or will he make the team next year? Thoughts?

I'm not sold that he isn't better than Grant, Singler, and McDermott.

Either Billy has too many headaches already or Presti has gone obsessive parent and has Josh in a multi-year prep program from hell.

I'm a big fan of Huestis. In his limited minutes he has played really well. I hope we give him extended minutes above Singler and McDermott. Let's let Gibson go and see what our young group of PFs are capable of. If not, the whole draft and stash idea is for nothing.

Well to be fair, ANY NBA player is better than Singler.

Huestis looks amazing in garbage time. Looks almost exactly like grant lol but more of a 3. Great athleticism with some solid D and halfway decent off the catch and shoot. I hope we get to see him next year and we probably will if we ever want to see the return value from his contract.

The fact that he wasn't even given a chance was asinine to me. Royce Young said they think he's too small. Is he smaller than he was in draft day? Considering our bench was horrible and this guy didn't get a chance is just both stupid and frustrating.

I'll take an unproven d leaguer over a backup pg imported from China.

Don't you think that's what teams should be looking for in d-leaguers? The guys that are d-league superstars are very rarely going to be able to replicate that success in the NBA. On the other hand, a guy that knocks down open threes off the catch and plays tough defense should still be able to do that at the next level. Not that huestis is necessarily the shining example of that, but if I was running an NBA organization I'd be more intrigued by guys that fill roles.

He can't possibly be any worse than Roberson. I would imagine if they gave him his starting role with the same 32 minutes per game that he would easily double his scoring output (Roberson is dead last in the NBA in points per minute based on those playing a minimum of 15 minutes per game) and he plays solid defense from what I've seen. I've seen enough of his shooting form to know that it's fundamentally sound unlike Roberson so he has a much bigger upside. They should let Roberson go, try to get a solid two way player to start in his spot and try to develop Huestis as a backup role player.

hi sleestak33. i know it's probably an oversight on your part, but i was expecting a list of 'dozens of games' that steven adams was dominated in this season as well as an explanation for our defense performing at an elite level with adams and andre roberson in the game during the playoffs.
when can i expect you to produce so that the discussion can be continued?

The most confusing part is why he hasn't gotten any kind of a chance. He doesn't do well in the d-league, but there were opportunities to give him a few more cracks at NBA level than he get. Any and all Singler minutes should have gone to him. Deserved a shot to show the team what he can do.
That being said, at this stage I'd rather we just move on. Particularly if we re-sign Roberson. I'm over spending roster spots on athletic wings that can't shoot. Having Roberson and Grant is pushing it enough, may as well use the roster spot on a different kind of player. And it's clear Huestis isn't going to get any opportunities anyway. Maybe he can go and do well elsewhere.

Gotta wait to see what happens with robes. If he signs long term then I'd imagine huestis is gone after next season.

Already gave a list of around 20 games where Adams got dominated by opposing bigs (not to mention allowing Nene to go 12-12 and have 28 points and 10 rebounds in only 25 minutes in game 4 against Houston) and the fact that Roberson gave up more points to Harden in the first 3 games of the playoffs than anybody has scored since Michael Jordan dating back 20 years (37, 35 and 44 points). I could keep slamming you with stats

but it just doesn't seem to do any good. Harden averaged 29 in the regular season...he averaged over 33 against Roberson and it would have been much worse had he not played on an injured ankle in game 4 and had 16 in that one (that's the only reason Roberson had some success in that game). Elite defense indeed...LMAO.

I sort of have my doubts Huestis is around much longer. If you listened to that last Locked on Thunder pod he did with Katz (at about the 30 minute mark) he comes about as close as I've ever heard a Thunder player other than maybe Lamb in publicly complaining about the lack of playing time/role. Don't think Presti will appreciate that.

When did he complain about his lack of playing time? Can you link the podcast?

no. no you didn't. you listed some scoring totals; and 14 of them not 'around 20'. i'd like dates and links to boxscores please.
sleestak33 wrote:Elite defense indeed...LMAO.
i've never seen a person not answer a question as much as you have. i don't care about your opinion on andre roberson or steven adams' individual defense. i care about you producing evidence for your claims, and / or counter-claims.
1) evidence that adams has been dominated 'dozens of times' by opposing bigs. those are your words. 'dozens of times' is not 14 times. and listing off a list of points and rebounds for adams opponents without sources or links is not evidence. you could be making it up.
2) our team defensive performance against the rockets with roberson and adams in the game was elite. to what do you attribute that to? if you don't believe our team defense against the rockets with roberson and adams in the game was elite, explain why?
this is the fourth time i've asked these questions.

That was incredibly benign. He basically just said being a d leaguer isn't what he dreamed of.
