Is he comparable as a team defender? Robes constantly rotating and putting out fires is his biggest contribution imo.

He's a good team defender, but off the top of my head there's not another wing in the league that contributes the way Roberson does in that capacity. Maybe Durant based on his ability to contest shots at the rim.

Definitely not since becoming an offensive focal point. And I think he's a better one on one defender but worse team.

18 games now without andre roberson. that's nearly 1/4 of the season. in those 18 games the thunder have, cumulatively, the worst defense in the nba. nice! where the haters at?

We get it, he was a very good defender, nobody ever denied it.....the fact that they have been so bad without him speaks to that, as well as how bad his replacements and their defensive philosophy are/have been. They need to bring in another sevicable wing or 2. It's hilarious how you acknowledge the "abject lunacy" of the bench, but at the same time credit Roberson for being so much better than his replacements. No player should matter that much defensively on a sound nba roster. we all know it.

On the contrary, I actually think solid individual defenders are going to be even more important as the game moves forward, with the way that the floor has been stretched to the breaking point. Help side still exists, but these days you can't even tag or you're getting murdered from the corners. Some smart basketball guys are getting on board with this.

You have changed your tune!.. funny how you couldnt see how good he was when he was playing..

You thought the team would be FINE without him: "who does okc need Roberson against now (who has a wing Paul George can't guard)? Not denying they have some filthy defensive possibilities with him out there, worth exploring, but can't they seemingly outscore almost everyone while playing a lineup with russ/pg/melo/patterson/adams, or Russ, george, grant, melo, adams, or Russ, abrines, george, patterson, adams, all of which would be fine defensively. What teams in particular is he of use against now, that they couldn't simply outscore while being just good on defense instead of very good?"

None of these lineups are fine defensively. we also cant outscore opponents. He is of use against ALL teams. 3-6 since he went down.

Not really....i never said he wasn't an elite perimeter defender. Abrines and patterson have underwhelmed, and Grant has turned into a good backup forward. I maintain if they had another serviceable wing to replace him, they would be fine. Do you consider abrines, huestis, or Ferguson NBA caliber replacements?

Look the guy was a really good defender, and improved offensively by not just standing at the 3 point line and shooting airballs, like he had done all through his career until this year. It's a shame he's out, as unfortunately the cupboard is bare at his position on this roster. Also a shame it's having this much of an impact......and that none of you have confidence that they will figure out how to get this done without him, and that they'd improve with the addition of an NBA caliber wing via buyout.

What? That's not the contrary, of course solid defenders are vauluable.....they are pretty much standard on most other NBA teams throughout their benches. Its an expectation at the NBA level, but presti never finds unsigned free agents or second rounders that contribute, like most other teams successfully roll out. The fact OKCs defense has been down so much without him is a joke, for a team with such high end premier talent. That said......theyll figure it out by playoff time.

andre roberson has had this effect on the defense for three seasons now. if you had paid attention to the summer conversations you would know this.

are there wings available better overall than andre? of course. there are point guards better than westbrook, and wings better than paul george too. the question has always been a question of value. andre roberson is and has been an average to above average starter at his position and he's making $10mm a year. unless you find a diamond in the rough rookie, you're not getting that value anywhere else.

dre is more than a solid defender. he's one of the top defensive players in the league, and arguably the best defensive wing. this disconnect has been your problem the whole time. the thought that any old wing can come in and replace roberson. it'd be the same as suggesting any old big could come and replace adams.

Well, itd be nice to spread adams 25 mill on a center who could just defend his position and catch lobs for 10 mill a year, then add a quality wing or 2 with the other 15 mil. I know Roberson is more than a solid defender, I've always said as much. I just maintained, and still do, their ideal 5th starter would be an average defender on the wing (huestis, abrines, and Ferguson aren't that), who also can regularly contribute on offense (huestis, abrines, and Ferguson aren't that). Hopefully for the sake of the season a guy like that becomes available via buyout (KCP would be an incredible get, for example).

Is this you admitting you still do not understand the salary cap? If Adams were only making $10M OKC still would never have been able to offer any more money to FAs then what they did.
