Why shy away from Steven Adams?

Post#1 » by Howsie » Wed Nov 8, 2017 7:10 pm

Hi all.

I'm still fairly new to basketball so forgive me if this is pretty obvious but this is something that has bugged me since last season. But why do we so often see Adams rack up a quick 6-8 points in the first quarter of a game (and like I said this happened a lot last season too) and then for whatever reason that's it, he won't see the ball for the rest of the game.

I realise he isn't Shaq, but Adams is still bigger, stronger and faster than most C's he's up against. Why not use him more often? When you see a team like the Bucks for example, who would probably do anything but give away Giannis for a guy like Adams it kind of pisses me off that he's such an afterthought on this team. He's pretty much there to box out so guys can take his rebounds and then tell them where to go on defense.

As a team, I believe the Thunder would be a lot more effective if Adams was getting 10-12 shots a night, not 4-6.

Thoughts?

Bad coaching.

Because we would rather hold the ball for 20 seconds and chuck long contested jumpers. Part of it is coaching, but the team itself deserves some blame. Russell threw 3 straight dimes to him, and then goes low IQ ball and never looks his way again.

Because it's in this team's DNA to do that with its role players. We did the same **** to Ibaka.

Alright, cheers guys. So in other words they should be, they just don't.

Not to pile in on Anthony because enough people already do that but there was a point during last nights game where Adams somehow managed to get into the post with a guard on him, he was screaming for the ball, Anthony went to pass it, decided against it and chucked up a long contested two which he bricked.

How in that situation does our coach not go over there and slap him over the head for such dumb play.....

Either the coach does not understand what happened, the coach has no balls or the coach is letting his players do whatever they want. Those all translate to he is a bad coach.

Game starts : Russ finds Adams easily and kill our opponent defense

Opponent coach : Ok guys we need to adjust our defense to prevent Westbrook from giving so easy lay ups to Adams. We will protect the paint.

Donovan reaction : Ok our opponent adjusted. We could try to make more complex plays to help Adams offense but it's too much work so let's keep it simple : let's go for iso shots!

Story of our season so far (sad but true)

Adams should probably scream again in the huddle or locker room but it is easier to just brush it off. $300,000 per game, I'm good mate.
