Best Type of 2 Next to Westbrook?

Post#1 » by dmakk » Sun Jun 10, 2018 5:24 pm

Mavs fan here. It seems like the best type of guards next to Westbrook should be the 3 and D archetype, but that doesn't seem to be the mold of guys they've drafted or traded for. What do you guys think is the best type of player type next to Westbrook? Do you think Ferguson will be that type of guy?

Oladipo played well as a 3&D guy but it wasn’t the best use of his skills. The hope is very much that Ferguson becomes that kind of player. Those guys are hard to find. Everyone wants them.

Athletic, high BBIQ defenders that can catch and shoot. Guys that can stay engaged even when they go long stretches without being involved in the offense. Dipo and PG fit well as 3&D guys. Ibaka was a good fit as a 3&D big when he stayed engaged, but he got frustrated at his lack of offensive involvement at times. OKC has passed on a few shots at that type of player for guys like McGary, Sabonis and Huestis recently.

Wes Matthews or a player like Wes would actually be a great fit next to Westbrook.

a top 5 wing defender in the nba. if you don't have that you can't defend consistently. if he can also shoot, fantastic. but much less important.

A good player.
