I wonder if its 1 year or bust in 2022 for the first rounder lottery protected. Thats a BIG draft year. Could get lottery guys in the 20's.

We had to concede something to get away from that contract. I like the trade from an on court perspective for the 2018-2019 season. Schroeder is a much better option at backup PG than Felton.

Much better option, and it allows Russ to either rest or deal with a minor injury without the team being completely pathetic at the PG position with a Felton + ???? combo

Don't you mean the 2021 draft?
2021 will allow HS players into the draft most likely. This means that class will have the best players from the 2020 HS class (1 and done) and the 2021 class (first time HS guys are allowed back in). Because it will have the best of two HS classes, it should be the equivalent of the top talent of 2 drafts.

I can’t believe they gave up a first and took on the money for Schroeder

Shroder as a 6th man/leading scorer on a second unit is a much better fit than Shroder as a starting point guard and first/second option. I don't mind this, it fills a big gap.

I like the defensive potential of the team with this trade.
Small lineup with Adams playing center sounds good.
Schroder-WB-Robertson-George-Adams
Instead of having slow Melo who cant defend the rim at all we'll have Schroder trying to pressure opponent perimeter players sounds good.
WB-Robertson-George should be able to switch easily too.
There are some concentration and motor issues for Schroder. I dont expect him to be good defender in season but when it comes to playoffs he'll help.
On offense he should be able to take load off from WB as primary ball handler. He might be better at playmaking than Russ too.
I still dont trust Donovan though.

You know that Shroders D is just super BAD

This is a good trade which gives OKC salary relief for this year, a talented PG to work with AND lots of flexibility for potential future trades. Schroders market value should increase with OKC and we could turn him into some nice assets mid or end of the season. Or if he really works out well enough OKC can even keep him.

I expect he will assume the Reggie Jackson "microwave" role.

Just wanted to drop by and say my congrats to Presti for pulling such a great trade again.
Now the melo is gone I can try to rekindle my interest in basketball for this season.
I hope Schröder does not get a long suspension for his stupid off-court issues. 2 streetball type backcourt players will surely give us much eye-candy we sorely missed in 2017 season.

I have heard chatter that it might be 2022. I think the options are still open. Hopefullly it’s 2021 when HS kids can join the draft.

2022 first-round pick (protected 1–14 in the first year, then becomes two second-rounders).
I think the 2nd rounders would be in 2024 and 2025, since the 2022 and 2023 are tied to the 2020 first round pick that Orlando ownes.
Hopefully this isn’t the first year HS kids are allowed in the draft.

Having to eat another pick so this guy can get all his money flat out sucks in my opinion.

hawkssquak schroeder appreciation thread
https://hawksquawk.net/community/topic/428143-the-dennis-schr%C3%B6der-appreication-thread/people who dont like this trade and are upset about the mediocre pick to get a legit young stud, have to know this is a win-now team. schroeder has all the tools to be a solid third option on any team in nba. his advanced stats dont tell the whole story, since his team whas crap and the hawks FO didnt show any inclenation of changing that. a winner like schroeder will drag that down further. and the kid whas phenonomal in the playoffs. in each series he played he whas the best hawk on the court, even on the 60 win team with horford etc.
if you look at advanced stats dirk nowitzki is actually a great defender...
