Sad to see purvis go, haven't been this broken up since Luke ridnour was traded.

this trade makes absolutely no sense unless the money involved in the dakari move and this move are really weird or if for some godforsaken reason sam presti likes abdel nader.

Looks like a favor to Ainge and Boston. Or just working with them.

Nader is owed 450K and Purvis non guaranteed, so waiving Purvis gets Boston out of the tax. OKC waives Nader and gets 450K in cash to make it up.

Or they could have just waived Purvis and stayed at the minimum requirement of 13 players on the roster after the trade, saving close to 8 million in the process.

This only makes sense if they're planning to to send out multiple players in a trade in the following weeks and plan to keep Nader as a cheap(er) fill-in because they need to fill the roster spot. Otherwise, this is spending money on a guy who's not gonna be part of the rotation.

Yea, Presti totally didn't know that aspect of this trade. Maybe RealGM posters should've warn him about the outcome of the trade.

I think the Thunder brought him in because he is on a team “Sam hinkie special” friendly deal. 3 years deal making a little over $4.5 million.

Each year of the deal is not guaranteed.

Looks like someone in the organization was watching too much Iowa St basketball in 2015-2016. Both Burton and Nader were on the team that was a 4 seed and lost to the #1 seed Virginia.

This deal is more about flexibility. If he is here after Aug 1, then he is prob on the roster moving forward. But he’s also a guy that you can walk away from next year if you want. Or he’s a little trade chip or he is added into a trade to make salaries work.

I am all for adding as many wings as you can. It’s good to have competition. Maybe this addition makes TLC work harder or pushes Ferguson. I am not too worried about adding guys at the minimum.

So if they keep Nader and cut Singler we're talking;

George-Abrines-Ferguson
Roberson-TLC-Nader
Grant-Patterson-Burton

Burton is 6'5 but he is really a 4 more than anything, 250lbs

That means 2 roster spots and a 2-way open, are they just gonna sign the 2nd rounders? what's the plan for those 3 (Diallo, Hall, Hervey) and the former 2-ways (Hamilton, Dozier) ? anybody knows? guesses?

the 450k in cash would not make it up because the luxury tax would apply to that 450k, no? you'd need about $1.8 million to make it up. and since sam sent reportedly $2 million to orlando to get out from dakari in the first place, this makes no sense unless sam presti likes nader for some unfathomable reason. or like you said some kind of nonsensical favor for his daddy danny ainge.

the twitter verse is saying that nader costs less in tax than a random free agent minimum player would, but he would still cost more in tax than diallo or the thunder's 2nd round picks signed to minimum. so again, it makes no sense unless he likes nader.

nader ranked 514/521 on rpm last season, and played in one of the best environments in the nba for a young player to develop. he's 24.

I'm not sure on the math, David could correct it, but even if your doomsday scenario is true he may like Nader more than a random second rounder. Also looks like dy4asty may have answered a bit too. Plus cutting Singler would figure in. And no idea how ainge is whatever now.

it's not a doomsday scenario, it's puzzling. it's not the first time sam has gone bonkers for fringe prospects before. we all remember semaj christon getting a roster spot over ronnie price (who was paid for two seasons to not be here). or josh huestis. this just seems another in a long tradition that's difficult to make sense of. it's not the end of the world, it's just bizarre and outwardly inexplicable.

I don't think stretching. Singler would be shocking. And you seem to be remarkably pessimistic about a guy owed next to nothing who's a fringe prospect traded for a guy owed nothing who was a fringe prospect. It's a nothing trade. And given they don't have much on the way of young players adding one is whatever. Maybe he plays for the Blue.
