Why is Patterson still playing?

Post#1 » by sleestak33 » Fri Dec 14, 2018 12:27 pm

At this point I just really don't see how they can justify him getting anything other than trash minutes in blowouts. He provides absolutely nothing offensively and his defense is even declining now. I would much rather see Noel take his minutes as he's almost always productive in some way with shot blocking, rebounding and sometimes putbacks or even put Burton out there in his place as even though he would be a bit undersized he has shown to be an explosive player who can make an impact on most games when given the chance. I have no idea why in the world they all of a sudden stopped playing Burton. It's like they just decide they're going to continue to give certain players chances over and over no matter how many times they fail (Kyle Singler) but others they just give up on inexplicably. The team needs much less of Ferguson and Patterson going forward.

I mean, to put it simply, they need a body. Can't play guys 48 minutes.

Because theres no1 else... you could play PG at the 4 but then you limit everything PG does well by playing him there. Ciuld work for some teams but not many.
He should be packaged with a 2nd and tlc or abrines for someone that can contribute for 10 mins a game hopefully.

I'd prefer them play more Diallo in place of Pats minutes. If you're the coach, tell him he's not stepping on the hardwood until he shows an ability to shoot and place G league defense in practice. Diallo could use those minutes for development because he actually looks like he has potential.

That's why I think they should play Burton or even TLC in place of Patterson. It's really a positionless league at this point anyway and those guys have proven they can be explosive and productive when they get in the game. Patterson is almost nonexistent at this point.

No, it really isn't. "Positionsless" is such a lazy buzzword used to justify playing guys out of position. Until tall or small people stop playing in the NBA, there's no such thing as "positionless".

C'mon man, Patterson/Grant at the five worked so well!
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Exactly. I think when people say “positionless” they really mean that you don’t have to play the 1 and be a point guard. Any position can run point. It’s just a matter of how you build around those guys. Being a power forward no longer means that your job is interior offense/defense and rebounds. You can be a 4 who is a “3&D” guy.

You must not be watching much NBA these days. I see lineups all the time for different teams where there's not one player remotely considered to be a power forward or center and there are tons of guys like Draymond Green who can guard 3 or 4 positions. My point is that OKC doesn't need to continue to play Patterson merely because he's the only guy resembling a power forward because I believe they would get much more production out of Burton or even TLC who have both proven they make things happen offensively when they're out there and they can guard anybody Patterson is guarding. Patterson is Kyle Singler at this point and it looks like they're just going to continue playing him no matter how bad he plays.
