I'm surprised people are pumped about Bazley's game. I thought he mostly forced dribble drives into traffic. He finished several but you could sort of tell when the bullets start really flying in the regular season he's going to look pretty lost out there with a very limited offensive repertoire.

If he were a third year guy or a top draft pick I think the feeling would be different. Overall, his numbers were solid, showed a willingness to pass and is attempting some really nice moves like finishing with his off hand.

i'm not one for any preseason conclusions, i almost never move a needle as a result of preseason action unless it's something health or rotation related. e.g. the fact that andre roberson hasn't played yet. or that dennis schroder is spending so much time with 1st teamers.

i'm a fan of sga's shot distribution though in this game. eight three point attempts, more than any game last year. and seven fta, more than all but two games last year. getting those threes off and getting to the line more are both the avenues he has to take toward becoming a more effective scorer and it was encouraging to see this distribution from him even though his volume is likely higher than he'd actually experience during real games against real players.

nothing else really of note for me. bazley is this year's diallo. there's always one of those.

nader and burton both being on the roster still makes no sense to me. they're both old and don't have much potential for improvement. and we didn't even end the summer under the tax so cutting one of them prior to their guarantee dates and at least signing a younger player with even a remote chance of meaningful development to a hinkie deal or something would have been preferable.

I was a big fan of some of the Thunder media like Jon Hamm picking up on the Nader is improved storyline at media day. Because that's definitely something that happens for a marginal NBA player at 26 years old.

I don't mind Nader being on the roster but I really don't like the fact that he's acting like he's Lou Williams out there by single-handedly trying to be the entire offense.

We’ve already proven that with Melo waiving his NTC, George re-sigining and with reportedly Horford willing to join. However you can’t go all in every year. It just doesn’t make sense to do so this year. You can only compromise the future by going for it in the present for so long.

The Bay area is a money filled area but before this decades Warriors did Golden State the have the kind of TV ratings that other big market teams had? Were they a big attraction to all star FA?

This is irrelevant to market size. Whether or not people are watching doesn't have anything to do with the size of the market.

I believe TV ratings plays a significant factor when advertisers, TV stations, agents, players and the NBA look at market size. There have been big population big dollar cities that were not looked at as large market teams because those cities fans did not support the teams via ticket sales and TV ratings.

Yeah, the discussion about small versus large market teams is pretty disjointed. Minny is always referred to as small market, but it would appear to be in the top half of the league in terms of size based on this information from Nielsen.

But, to your point, they've never really had a great team there and the fan support has just generally been lukewarm. Much more a Vikings town.

San Antonio has a large population but was looked at as a small market team for years due in part to low national tv ratings. There are also places that are huge for one sport but not for other sports like New Orleans or some Ohio teams. Even in NY you have the NY Rangers and Knicks that are considered top markets but the Islanders and Nets are considered much smaller.

a somewhat odd statistical comparison i came across last night: russell westbrook has shot better form 16-23 feet for his career than danilo gallinari.

Saw some practice footage of Adams working on threes the other day and he took a corner three last night. If he can add that to his game he will be a force.

I would be happy with 70% free throws.

True.

I like how both Ferg and Bazley looked. Bazley is obviously still very raw, but he could become a pretty versatile 4. I still worry about Schroder getting minutes/enough minutes not to complain. I fear he and CP will be the ones to clash as CP mentors SGA. Hope I'm wrong.

adams shooting threes is odd. i don't think there's a realistic percentage he could shoot from there to offset his value on the offensive glass.

Not totally shocked. For most of Gallo's career coaches encouraged him to stand behind the 3 to create space so he would rarely take 10-26 foot shots. Often it was a 3 or or slash to the rim (or get fouled on the drive). Last season he started shooting better inside the 3 by shooting right over mismatches.

In an earlier offseason thread I said Tyler Herro was a poor man's Malik Monk. After watching his first preseason game, I'd like to rescind that. He looks pretty slick.

Anthony Bennett injured / waived. I would closely consider claiming. He washed out of NBA but did well last season, especially shooting 3 ball. I'd carry him over Burton. Not that old.
